Re: You mean, that's their job?

You know what they say, Golden. Everyone has a talent, and there's a niche out there where each of them can be employed.

You would be surprised what you can get a job doing, especially when you expand your horizons to the flourishing field of crime. "Bye honey. I'm off to the office to film child porn."

But in this case I doubt if anyone has this as their job description or is doing it full time. If you are a syndicate running several degree mills, plus perhaps some online gambling, porn and sites selling things like fake IDs, you've already got people around to do this stuff. The owners certainly aren't the ones performing the labor. So just assign one of those guys to do it part-time as an additional duty.

Like I said, I think that over the months more than one individual has been doing it. But the similarity in their methods, style and agenda strongly suggests that they are connected. That in turn implies organization. Motive is obvious.

Imagine, if you enroll at a certain degree-mill, "factwatcher", "Cerado", "John Bear Scam", "Peters" or whoever it happens to be today might be your "dissertation advisor". At least in-between attacking AED and cleaning the toilets. Inspiring, don't you think?

    Re: Re: Suggestion...

I would participate. Perhaps two membership levels could be devised. Regular and Contributing? Maybe with some extra benefits. (But I think most who would contribute would not require extra benefits.)

Then too, when will we be able to buy ad space? Even a want ad type service could be beneficial to members and advertisers alike.

    Just Avoid Commercialization

Chip, allow me to offer my support for the fine product you offer. Degreeinfo.com is a staple in my daily www diet. I've even looked at the site when I've travelled overseas (out of the US). I am willing to financially contribute on a monthly basis for the service. Hey, I subscribe to magazines, newspapers etc, many of which I barely have the time to read. Fact is, I value your product and I am willing to "pay" for the service, as long as it is fairly reasonable.

I would only ask that you stay away from ads. I use ad blocking software because I am tired of popups on some commercial sites. Besides, some less than wonderful advertisers may just show their faces and compromise the integrity of the site.

    Anyway, that's my two cents.

    Food for thought.

On another forum, we tried to get people to contribute. But getting people to contribute was like pulling teeth. Most people will not let go of their money, especially for an internet forum. A couple of people gave five dollars (whoopteedo -- keep your crummy two dollars) and a core of about five to seven people have been the major contributors with major donations that have sustained the site. I speculate that it is the same at DegreeInfo.com.

In the beginning, advertising was also a flop. I guess that since the advertisers have been narrowed down to a specific market, it is more lucrative now. I think that advertising at DegreeInfo.com would also be market-specific e.g. advertising links (or banner boards) to colleges and universities that could get potential students who visit DegreeInfo.com. I definitely think that several colleges and universities would gladly post links to their schools at DegreeInfo.com for a nominal sum.

But would DegreeInfo.com be cluttered with dozens of those hellacious banner boards?

Yes, we will have advertiser support.

    BUT

    1. We will never have ads for unaccredited schools... and, in some cases, we may not accept ads for accredited schools that we feel have a high degree of dissatisfaction

    2. We will not have lots of obnoxious, distracting banners all over the place as some other sites do.

So yes, there will be advertiser support, but we plan to do it in a way that's respectful for our users and tasteful. That's the goal.

Re: Re: Those guys are really pi$$ed

I beg to disagree on both points. Firstly, a person who is psychotic would be far too disorganized to mount such an attack. I know you were probably just using the term "psychotic" as some sort of pejorative to indicate that the person doesn't think in the way that most people might think. However, it says something unseemly about people who are truly psychotic and never harm anyone. (BTW, persons diagnosed with serious mental illness commit far fewer crimes than those of us who are "normal.")
Secondly, it is my belief that people who engage in immoral/unethical acts as a part of their "business" are not in it just for the money. The fact that they are being paid doesn't absolve them of their responsibilities as members of society. The guards at the WWII concentration camps were "just following orders" but we know that this explanation is inadequate. (Overstated, I know, but I wanted to make the point) This person is obsessed with what (s)he is doing. They have no moral sense at all and are probably rather dangerous (in the sense that they could become completely unravelled quite easily). My $.02
