I understand there are many here, who are doing their MBA degree from UK schools. Can someone tell me about Durham MBA. They offer a DL MBA. I read an old thread, where Dr.Kennedy was talking about Durham. Does anyone have more recent information about them?

DBS is part of the University of Durham. They have royal charter, but they are not AACSB.

    Looks pretty bad-ass to me:

    -Equis and AMBA accredited
-Ranked 15th in the UK in the Financial Times Global MBA rankings in January 2006
-Ranked in the Financial Times Top MBA Providers 2008
-Receive the same degree as those who study via the full-time route"

I would say it is the equivalent of a strong US AACSB program.

Edit: More evidence of its bad-assness.

    Why bad-ass?

I believe that was meant as a compliment.

I was just feeling silly. You could translate as it is a strong program, at least as far as I can tell (see posted rankings above).

Reasonably priced too, at £11,600. Too bad about the dollar.

No GMAT appears to be required. There is, however, a minimum of three years work experience at a managerial level.

It's not a school I researched much when I was looking for a (UK) MBA but from what I understand it is a good, well-established program with a strong B&M University behind it, only Oxford and Cambridge are older.

If you are from the US you will have the usual problem of name-recognition. There are triple-accredited UK MBAs at a similar price if AACSB is what you want.

As with many of the robust UK MBAs the course assessment methods include examinations and a dissertation.

    All the best,

    Dave C.

Thank you all for the comments.

I did look at Warwick, Henley and Imperial. Warwick and Henley requires multiple campus visits. Not sure about Imperial, but too expensive for me. Does any of these schools have campus sessions in the US or Asia?

Is there any other good school that i might be missing?

    Sathya,

Henley has an international stream which only requires a yearly visit. You can proctor the exams overseas.

You might also want to look at Cass, Lancaster, Bath, Aston, Bradford - all good schools, not sure on their residential requirements.

Your name sounds Asian, you might want to look at Bradford. Due to its UK location it has a very large Asian intake (not sure if that would be an influencing factor at all), holds fairs in India and has contingents in Hong Kong and Singapore going by its website.

    All the best,

    Dave C.

The Durham MBA looks like a great program - high rankings, fair costs... I'm really digging the MA in Marketing - I'm putting this on my list for future study. Thanks for bringing this school to my attention.

    Thank you Dave.

I am not sure if Cass, Lancaster or Bath has a DL option. I did look at Aston, Bradford, but felt more comfortable with the Henley, Durham and Warwick. The other one that came to my notice is Manchester. They too are triple accredited. Will have to find out more.

I have visted Durham several times as a tourist. The older part of the university is adjacent to Durham Cathedral (the burial place of the Venerable Bede) and is located on a hill surounded on three sides by a river. There is also a castle like building used as a dormitory when school is in session.

There is also an Italian restaurant at the foot of the hill that serves great rhubarb crumble and custard as desert:)
