I don't see traveling to the UK to defend a thesis as a bad thing at all. A person could make a little vacation out of it while they are there. It still beats having to travel for an intensive class session once per month, like in the Kennesaw DBA program. I haven't looked into the Liverpool costs yet but both the Kennesaw and U of South Alabama DBA programs are both $90,000.

Wow, there were days in this forum when people were happy to find doctorates that would only require one visit a year.
Few doctorates now are fully online but students are not willing to go even one time to the school?
Even California coast University in the times when it was unaccredited required one visit.

I wonder if doctorates are just becoming commodities now.

Heriot-Watt University-Edinburgh Business School: NOT AACSB; however, an international recognized B-school. The DBA is offered via DL with no residential or group study requirements (e.g., self-study + EBS Supervisor) w/ a Thesis defense (e.g., “…assessment takes the form of a review followed by an oral 'defense' of your thesis. The examination will be conducted in person or by live video link at the University's discretion.”).

I get what you're saying... I'm not slamming online schools with residency requirements. As a matter of fact one-time visit vs. 2 or more 3-5 day on-site residencies is a no-brainer, IMO. A one-time residency wins, hand-down.

However, considering that Liverpool is not in the US; does not have some sort of segway (Skype, locations in select cities in the US, ect.) that caters to US students; and does not have Title IV funding, I decided to look elsewhere. Also, I work in a family business, so I just can't just "get away," even for educational reasons.

I don't need a doctor's degree to gain a promotion, or to teach because I do not want to be a teacher. Therefore, I am looking for a DBA program that: is online; regionally accredited; does not have multiple, week-long residency requirements; cost-efficient; and has a good reputation in the real-world.

Are you sure about this? On Liverpool's web site they are stating the program is 100% online. If a person does have to defend in person, then that's not 100% online now, is it? Oh, and they are flying the AACSB accreditation banner on their site now, too.

More specifically, "100% online assessment, no travelling to campus"

@JBjunior & @AV8R - The enrollment counselor I talked to said I would have to go to the campus in the UK to defend my thesis. Maybe she was misinformed or they decided to change their policy... Keep in mind that I have not talked to Liverpool in about a year. :)

I noticed that they have an "Optional face-to-face residencies" clause in there. I don't know how strict they would be in that department. Since Liverpool is AACSB accredited now, maybe they have to put that in place in order to meet AACSB standards. I don't know.
