I posted here because it seems the "off topic" rarely gets traffic so to keep things on topic, Greg was a big help to me at one point when I was looking for advice on getting my BS and MBA and I'm concerned about the guy. Does anyone have an update on him?

(yeah it'd probably help if I spelled his handle correctly in the title)

I pm'd him eon's ago, but never got a reply.... I just had a quick look at his website, and he ends it with

" One way or the other, stand up from this stupid computer and go do something in real life... before it finally dawns on you just how much time you've wasted with your hand on that mouse."

    So something significant must've happened...

I think he got in some kind of accident or something and from what I've read he has spent quite some time recovering as much as he can.

If I remember correctly (and if the information I read was correct), Gregg fell at home and suffered a brain injury. He has not been on this or any other message board since, at least none of the DL boards I read.

I do miss his presence. He and I posted messages back and forth many times about Ashworth and Penn Foster College (but back then it was known as Education Direct).

I also checked out his web site, which stresses the importance of going to church, and that life "ain't no dress rehearsal". I probably do spend too much time on the computer, which is something I think I need to work on. I recently weaned myself from spending entire weekends watching TV.

You never realize how important the time you have on this Earth is until you face the prospect of not actually being here.

Gregg did have some significant medical issues, but he did say he would be back eventually. He's always welcome here, and is still listed as a site Moderator for the day he comes back.

I sure wish he would come back. That guy is a hero to me.

I too miss Gregg. I did not agree with all of his views, but he was professional and his posts were well researched. That is what I used to like about the forums, the diversity of opinion, and I wish we had the voices of Gregg, Robert Hill, Denis, Gus, Uncle Janko and QTJ back in the discussion. The discussions were heated, but they moved distance education forward. I have looked at Gregg’s website from time to time and I feel that he has moved on to other areas based on his post there. There were many personal attacks on Gregg in the forums and I do not blame him for not returning. If you recall, the last frequent poster to be injured, Mark Israel was also the subject of personal attacks after his injury. Perhaps Gregg wanted to avoid a similar situation. I have no doubt that he is making a positive contribution to whatever he is doing now. I would like to see him come back too, at least to tell us that he is recovering, and perhaps he will.

Hello, Oddly I was thinking about Mark the other day and wondering if anyone knew how he was doing. Please post if you have any updated information. He was a huge help to me and great with out of the box thinking. I hope Mark and Greg both continue to heal and regain health. Have a peaceful Sunday. Hille

Gregg appeared (unannounced) on the doorstep of a forum participant in another state, earlier this year. It was apparently rather challenging and difficult moment, and said person has chosen not to write about it.

I've corresponded with Mark's wife, Rosaura, from time to time. Until a year ago (three years after the accident) there was slow, very slow progress. But I haven't had an answer to my most recent inquiry, a few months ago.

Yeah, I wish Greg was still around. We butted heads quite badly one time, but he climbed down and apologised both publicly and by PM. I always remembered that.

He's right about doing stuff in real life - I hope that is exactly what he is doing. Spending the entire weekend outside with the family has reminded me of just what really is important. (Which is why I browse here with my cup of tea first thing in the day at work now!).

    Peace,

    Dave C.

An extremely prolific and knowledgeable poster from the days of DI's infancy, who was a great resource for South African DL programs. Kind of like a shooting star....not here long, but a memorable run for those of us who were around to see it.

He is currently attending UoL and U of Southern Queensland. He posted something here about NCU here:

    http://en.allexperts.com/q/Distance-Learning-2087/f_2901909.htm

His education credentials are as follows (lower left corner of the page):

BSc South Africa; MS, PhD Stanford University; MSc Birkbeck College, University of London (in progress, distance education); MProfComp University of Southern Queensland (in progress, distance education).

The link you cite belongs to someone going by the name of RAW as a "Follow-Ups to Answer from Expert Gert Potgieter", RAW writes on 2007-02-11 07:42:56

Are you suggesting RAW is Gert Potgeiter ?
