About DETC handing out accreditation like Grandma's ribbon candy to mills, is this something that I've been missing because I have not had as much time as you to observe things in real time? Which are the 'mills' that DETC has accredited? Are these formerly millish schools that became good enough for accreditation? Or outright mills that had accreditation bestowed upon them? If the latter, how could DETC allow such things to happen?

When did Southwest fall into the 'less than wonderful' category?

During its days as a 94310(c) school.

Translated, long before my time on the distance learning boards.

Geez, I don't even know what a 94310(c) school is.

Because you don't see many schools, let alone DL institutions, which offer only one degree. Most DETC schools offer undergrad degrees or career diplomas. Those who do offer graduate degrees usually offered undergrad degrees first.

I do remember reading about this in this very forum. It has got to do with some California State Regulation, if i recollect correctly.

Their undergrad programs are part of Yorktown College www.yorktowncollege.com .

I don't think they had an MBA prior to accreditation (at least I don't recall one even after all the times I visited their site, every time there was a DETC accreditation meeting; it looks like they're putting out the MBA quiz to judge the demand for a future MBA program.

All of this reminds me of a post by one of the most senior members of a.e.d/degreeinfo wherein he prophesied that if DETC went forward with the accreditation of the then new Concord JD program, it would signal the nail in the coffin of DETC as a credible body and set it on a path towards losing its recognition from CHEA and USDofEd.

The speculation looks like bad psuedo code:

    If this, then - else,
loop back and start "if" statement again

While I am certain some here have done so, for all else, I recommend downloading and reviewing the entirety of the DETC accreditation procedures and standards. Educating oneself on the relevant particulars is rarely at odds with developing a well informed opinion.

In my observation and experience, the processes are well developed, thorough, and broad and the reviewers are academically and administratively qualified and independent - for what that's worth.

It was not a personal attack, but a formulated opinion, just as Rich made his opinion. If you want to disbar me from writing my opinion to counter a personal attack on DETC then that shows an interesting position of this board.

Since I'm not a state bar association I'm incapable of disbarring you, even if you are an attorney. If you are an attorney, then you surely know that personal attacks hardly ever help an otherwise reasonable, well thought out argument.

jagmct1: I actually like you, and I like DETC schools, too. But I think the part where you got into trouble was where you wrote "if Rich had done his research." Had that part been deleted or excluded, the post would have been fine.
