I want to finish off a degree ASAP to move on to a graduate degree. I decided to go with the Excelsiors BSLS degree since it's the most flexible. My question is since I will be mostly testing out of courses what is the best way to have the GI BILL and my works tuition assistance pay for my degree?

I know I can pay for the CLEP tests and have the GI BILL reimburse me. Will the GI Bill or tuition assistance pay for the enrollment fees at Excelsior? I don't want to pay anything out of pocket and trying to find the best way to work around this. Any ideas?

No, not active. I did not mean tuition assistance from the military. I get tuition assistance from my employer. Sorry if that confused anyone.

  4. ok not active duty,
Well I do not know if you know how the gi bill works or not but ill tell you anyway. The gibill gives you a certain amount of money a month based on how many credits are enrolled in, to get the most amount of money you need to be enrolled full time, which is 12 credits. This kinda stinks because they do not take CLEPs or DANTES exams into consideration when figuring out how many credits you are taking. You can use your works tutition assistance to pay for the courses and pocket the gibill money to supplement enrollment fees and books but gibill will not reimburse you for this cost. I dont know how your works tuition assistance works but I doubt it will pay for your enrollment fees, but then again you would have to check with them.
The GIBILL is kind of a pain in the butt, up enrollment you have to have the school contact the VA and have them tell them how many credits you are taking, then every month you have to call them or log on to their website and verify that you are still going to school, if you dont do these things you wont get paid. this is a lengthly process and the initial start up time can take up to 9 weeks!!! so start early if you really need the cash.
if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

I agree with OriginalBigJim. The MGI Bill only reimburse you with the vocational certification exams such as MCSE, CCN, CompTIA +; but they don't reimburse you with the CLEP and DANTES exams. The best route is using your employer tuition assistance program for those exam. Then use the MGI Bill for the Master degree.
