Argosy and Touro have both accepted me into their respective Doctoral Program, (DBA/PhD) However, Argosy’s residency requirements are pretty intensive considering that I do have a family and I have a F/T job. The selection process is pretty tough, since I am concern that a Touro PhD may not be looked as equal to its counterpart because of its on-line delivery. I am aware that Touro's Ph.D. program is awfully new and it will be kind of difficult to determine the utilization of the degree.

Does anyone have any information concerning the acceptance of Touro’s PhD degree within the Academic/Business industries?

    Thanks
    Tom (Nova MPA)

I imagine it would be at least as high as Argosy's--particularly if you list Touro College as the degree-granting authority (which I believe it is).

    Cheers,

Thank you Tom Head for your input. I would like to hear from others like Mr. Rich Douglas Dr. Andy Borchers Dr. Bear, etc.

    Thanks

I am a Ph.D. student and working in a senior position for a multinational company (IT industry). It is very much accepted in my company. They also contribute 50% of the tuition.

    Just curious,
What does the Touro diploma look like?
Does it say Touro University International or Touro College?
The International in the title bothers me.

I am not sure what it looks like, but the school has told me that it says "Touro Univeristy International".

I am curious as to how the degree looks...Is there anyone who has completed any program at the school?

I will graduate from the MBA next week. As soon as I receive the "skin" I'll scan it for everyone. The school told me that it has both Touro University International and Touro College on it. :) I don't remember how it shows the relationship, though.

It says "Touro University International" at the outset and underneath between brackets (Branch campus of Touro College, New York).

It has three signatures, president of Touro College, Provost of TUI and the Academic dean of TUI.

PS: Yes, I completed my MBA. Highly recommended!

    RUN, RUN

The "branch campus of" is a nice marketing tool, however:

    1) The degree is from Touro University International not Touro College
    2) TUI programs are unique, they are not offered at TC
    3) Faculty are unique, you do not utilize TC faculty

bottom line... you have a degree from a virtual school which puts it pretty low on the pecking order.

    Ken,

You make it sound as a bad thing! TUI always emphasized that they are an independent university linked with Touro College through accreditation. At least they are not-for-profit institution.

Check some of the advantages of a not-for-profit academic institution:

    I quote TUI provost stating:

"Remember that Touro University International is a not-for-profit educational institution," continued Professor Neumann.  "We have an obligation to meet our cost structure and provide for future developments with our tuition.  However, we are not obligated to keep those tuition rates at a level to also provide a substantial profit element.  We can pass those savings on to our students.  We do not need to provide for stockholders or other investors."

    For full text logon to:

    http://www.tourou.edu/FAQ's/tuition_fees(adjustment)M.htm

I also quote the academic dean stating:

"As a branch campus of New York's Touro College, TUI offers the first 100% online Ph.D. programs to achieve U.S. regional accreditation. Under California law, we must be authorized by California (not New York) to award our degrees. Thus, there is a legal requirement for TUI to award its own degrees. Middle States thoroughly reviewed and approved this relationship."

All professors at TUI (both College of Business Admin. and Health Sciences) are full timers. There is only *one* adjunct faculty member. Moreover, the College of Health Sciences has a brick and mortar presence where students can attend classes in California.

    Eli

    Hello Eli,

Is there a chance you could scan your TUI MBA for our viewing pleasure?

    TUI's faculty is 100% Ph.D. and 100% full time.

What other colleges offering distance education can say the same?

    Just a thought.

Don't they also have graduate assistantships?

Yes. They do have graduate assistants. Under close supervision, the graduate assistants are responsible for grading papers for some of the undergraduate and masters classes. They select only the advanced PhD students or those with prior teaching experience. E-mail the dean for more information - he'll want your CV and cover letter.

    TUI MBA

    Eli, Gary-

I am looking at the TUI MBA in Military Management. Can you tell me more about the program? I probably will only take one class per session. I see there are no exams- projects, ect. instead.
How much study time do I need per class?

    thanks,
    Rob

    Re: TUI MBA

One class per session is a good load. Yes, there are no exams in the traditional sense. A student is expected to complete the following:

Load per Module (total of 6 modules over 3 months)
    ----------------------------------------------------
    - Case analysis (5-7 pages)**
    - Session Long Project (3 pages)
    - Engage in Threaded Discussion with other peers
    - Or work on an enhanced case (1-2 pages)
    - Attend the live conference (if any)
    ----------------------------------------------------
    * In my opinion, 1.5 hours per day per course is a min. requirement
** Min. pages required (depending on the professor)

    Hi Eli,

Can you email me a scanned sample of a TUI diploma?

If not can you tell me (or anyone) if TUI's trademark symbol (TUI with a world behind it) appears on the background of the diploma?

    Thanks,

    my email: [email protected]
