I know, it's frustrating. How are your other courses coming along? I know you were trying to finish those up as well.

I finished up the backup training course I'm interested in right now. Now I need to transcript them through North Idaho College. That makes 14 hours through them unless I feel like I need to finish the last 3 hours worth of courses. I could order the last set of courses but they probably wouldn't come in for around 3-4 days. I'm just sitting here reading CLEP info right now. :)

Does anyone know the Author name and title for the textbooks for Art Appreciation or Physical Science? I have access at work and several other avenues to hundreds and hundreds of books. Instead of waiting the 10-15 days if I have it here I can start my courses but I don't know the names. I know the name of the Art book is "The Power of Art" but I have no idea who the author is.

They raised them not long ago. I believe they are roughly $200 per 3-hour course and tat includes the text book and study guides.

$90 per credit + proctored examination fee.. they went from $60 to $90 x credit pretty radical but well.. thats how it is..

Wow. That's a pretty hefty increase!

yeah they increased tuition the day they started offering bachelors degrees. However I dont find their bachelors very attractive... the curriculum doesnt look very flexible..

plus the classes for the Bachelors degree are NOT ACE approved

And according to ACE there is no schedule for the evaluation of those new classes...

I think that they are probably going to lose clients but thats my humble and fallible opinion

Cant belive it! seems like PF people checks this forum!.. cost per credit went from $90 to $65! so thats just a $5 increase x credit which is very reasonable!

I noticed the BA courses weren't ACE approved, but I don't think it will result in a loss of clients. Look at it this way, PF has always offered Career School certificates and Associates degrees and they still do. Why would people seeking those two options leave them? While the new BA courses are not ACE reviewed, they are still DETC accredited, which puts them on the same playing field as other DETC schools, only less expensive. In fact, I think it puts them a leg up on other DETC schools because most of the competition doesn't have anything in the cirriculum that is ACE reviewed. Penn Foster is still a great value for someone interested in a DETC bachelors degree, an Associates degree, a certificate, or single ACE reviewed courses.

    Penn Foster??

Do their credits transfer to Excelsior???

Those courses that have been evaluated by ACE will transfer with no problem. As of today, Penn Foster has had 182 of their courses successfully evaluated. Nearly all of its business courses (business, management, marketing) have been evaluated, as have most of the general ed courses (english, math, psychology, biology, etc.).

I am doing the Physical Science course through PF for the last 3 credits I need to get my Associates at Excelsior. Since I haven't done math or science since 1978/79, this is "eating my lunch" so to speak! I am working on it during lunch break, and at night. So far I have finished 3 sections of it and have a 90, 72 and 88. I'm on the Chemistry right now. For those that have done this course (or any other PF course), am I wasting my time to try to pass this course? Even if I make fairly good on-line exams, I'm worried about passing the timed proctored exam. It takes me forever to do the formulas, etc. I just don't see how I can pass the timed exam. Any advice for me, please?

I had the same problem with the Business Math course at PFC. Keep in mind that the proctored exam is also open-book. Cut down on the time it will take you to find the appropriate portion of your textbook by highlighting the formulas in your book and marking the pages with Post-It notes with a couple of key words that tell you what is on that page. Do some practice problems ahead of time, either from your textbook or some similar problems that you can find online. Do the most difficult problems on the exam first, and then go back to the easy ones later. You usually have an hour to do the exam for each course, so figure out how long you have to do each problem. If you have 10 problems on the exam, spend no more than six minutes on each problem. You don't want to run out of time, which is exactly what happened to me on one of my exams.

I actually failed two final exams at PFC and had to re-take them, and I'm not a dummy. They were genuinely tough, even though they were open-book. For those who think PFC is an easy way out of taking a college course, they are dead-wrong. I did pass the retake exams, but the highest score you can get on a re-take is a 70.

I am absolutely dreading my final exam for Financial Accounting. It will take an act of God for me to pass that one.

I have taken a bunch of classes at Penn Foster. Though I have failed none of them, I can attest to the level of challenge involved with several of them. The English Comp course was the most difficult for me. The level of scrutiny involved with the various term papers was crazy compared to other schools I have attendd, both nationally and regionally accredited. I am not complaining in any way, just enforcing the earlier comment that Penn Foster is not an easy way out. Don't confuse inexpensive or nationally accredited with being easy.

You're right. This course (Physical Science) is very thorough and hard. I tend to think that open book exams are sometimes harder than closed-book ones. I'll keep on plugging away at this and hope I pass the final.
