I'm looking for more feedback from Northcentral University (NCU). I just submitted my application to NCU for a Ph.D in Business Administration with a specialization in Computer and Information Security. I should here back soon on how much my previous studies will carry over into the program. I'm excited to get started. I'll let the board know how this goes.
There are quite a few NCU’ers on this board, welcome! I enjoy it very much and think it is both an excellent program, and I have learned a lot. I’ve bogged down in the comp process and am 5/7s of the way through it, which means I’ll probably start the research for the dissertation either next month or the month after.
If you know your subject backwards and forwards going in (like I did), and you push really hard, you can probably finish the course work within about a year. Comps can be finished in two month, but it is going to take me three because I’m being lazy. My understanding is then about a year for research, and a year for the dissertation, at full speed; so three years if you fully dedicate.. I understand that things can get a bit buggy, so there may be another year in there if you let up some..
Just got the confirmation back from NCU. Now it's time to start. Each class is 12 weeks and I was contemplating knocking two classes out from the start. How was OM7015 - Personnel Management and Organizational Behavior?
Thus far, I can say that I've learned much in my NCU program. That's not much of a credit to the mentors, though. NCU mentor feedback can be spotty and I have had classes where I pour heart and soul into a paper and only get back something like, "Great job." Still, other mentors have given solid feedback and guidance. I have to say that the initial writing course was excellent and the mentor was wonderful. What I like about NCU is that it's a business program allowing me to concentrate on a technical path. Some folks don't care for that and would rather do a more technical program such as Dakota State's DSc or CTU's(or even the Robert Morris, NSU, and Pace programs) DCS. NCU seems to have the process down. I've found it very easy to work with my program advisor. Sometimes, the 12 week sessions don't seem long enough to get everything done but it's been manageable. There are a few choices out there but this one fits my schedule and has the program that I was not able to find elsewhere. Tuition isn't much of a concern for me as I get it reimbursed. However, it does have the lowest tuition compared to any of the other distance/online/low residency RA doctorates. There was some discussion on another forum about one of the NCU doctorate holders that created some excitement. One of their doctorate mentors has an Empresarial PhD. The school did an audit of credentials and found it equivalent to an RA here. That's about it for negative excitement lately. Although, apparently the mentor seems to be one of their best mentors. OM7015 - Personnel Management and Organizational Behavior OM7015 is a required course for all graduate business students at NCU as it lays the foundation for what is expected of a learner at the University. There are 7 assignments in the course; the first 6 require you to write a few pages each and a final project that calls for another 15 to 20 pages. Depending on your research skill and your writing ability it may or may not be a challenging course for you. At first the assignments might seem a bit overwhelming; however, once you learn to navigate the NCU libraries and databases, and express relevant research accurately within your papers, you shouldn’t have any problems. I completed this course earlier this year, and received an 'A'. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Good luck to you at NCU.
