One of the reasons I'm still interested in working with my prospective supervisor even though he's moved from University of Pretoria to the less prestigious Cape Peninsula University of Technology is that he's supportive. (That he'll be a Dean at CPUT doesn't hurt either.)

    PhD in Finance

University of Stellenbosch's College of Business wrote to me after evaluating my Proposal for a PhD in Finance, to formally apply to the College.

They are very easy to contact and reponse back very promptly and i am very impress with them.

Head of the College and PhD Convenor also wrote to me...

That's interesting. A friend of mine wrote them about doing a PhD in Economics through them and was flatly refused, but that was at least three years ago. Good news, though, as Stellenbosch is highly regarded.

At the present, I have not finished my MBA in Hospitality & Tourism Management (Columbia Southern University) yet (until July of 2009).
But I would like to pursue my PHD in tourism at Stellenbosch too.
Please tell me your experience with the university!
By the way, if any of you need infomation abt www.columbiasouthern.edu, let me know!

    Long,

I just have a question about the degree comparison in Vietnam. If you have an MBA at Columbia Southern University, and somebody has an MBA degree from Vietnam National University or University of Can Tho. Which one has better value?

It is almost the same in Vietnam. Your capability is more important. Vietnam is a developing country so the value of a degree is the ability of doing something. Indeed, foreign educated mind may be more open than the local one.

    Dear Mr. Tekman,
FIRST, with (1) degrees granted by accredited universities such as Columbia Southern University, NorthCentral University, Troy University... and (2)programmes are accepted officially by Ministry of Education & Training of Vietnam to deliver/teach (under close supervision), they (the degrees from such universities are as fine as the Vietnamese ones.
SECOND, If you want to be deans of state-owned universities or government institutions, you should take Vietnamese degrees. On the other hand, if you work for companies (both private & state-owned ones), you'd better earn capitalist country degrees. All of the mentioned kinds of degrees are legitimate here. In my own case, I prefer to have an PHD/DBA from USA or countries where English is spoken as the first language BECAUSE I have planned to teach hospitality & tourism at INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES / DISTANCE UNIVERSITIES DELIVERING EDUCATION IN VIETNAM.
I sold my home to pursue my MBA & have no more houses to sell (living in a rented one now) for the PHD/DBA.
So, I need information from all of you.

Also some more little explainations abt foreign vs domestic degrees:
    1. Few government scholarships are only for domestic previous degrees.
    2. Distance universities here accepted all degrees.
    3. International universities and reputed universities here prefer to recruit foreign professor (including Vietnam National University - Ha Noi Capital), or overseas Vietnamese professors, or at least Vietnamese graduates with degrees granted by universities from English speaking nations.

I love Vietnamese, but please use English in order to respect other members.
I am staying in Saigon but my travel schedule to Southeast Asia and Indian subcontinent is very tight.
If you want to study in South Africa, it is a good option for "budget" learning. However, it is NOT cheaper than schools in Malaysia or Singapore or some foreign institutes in Vietnam. And even you have to pay some thousands dollars for flight tickets to fly there in some certain cases.

    Hi Tekman,
It is good to know you here, your signature is very, very fantastic.
