What is the cheapest way to prepare for a CPA via DL? I understand you need 150 credits and 36 must be in accounting/tax and 39 in business. Any suggestion on the easiest and cheapest all-in-one way to get the credits? I don't want three classes from one school, two from another, etc.

Yikes, Florida. One of the states with the highest requirements.

One of the cheapest and easiest ways to get 9-12 credits is no doubt the Bisk review course. They are ACE reviewed for 3 credits per section. All you have to do is take a multiple choice final exam for each section. Cost for all 4 should come out to $800 or so, including the book set!

While we're on the subject, I might as well take this opportunity to highly recommend the Kaplan review flashcards. Stay away from their books, but the flashcards are way better than Becker's offering.

In Florida, you need 150 hours, 36 credits in accounting above the principles level, and 2 courses in business law. (Where did you come up with 39 in business?) Each state is a little different I guess.

The cheapest DL way I found (for a Florida resident) from non-accounting bachelor's to CPA ready would be:

    1) Do the LSU Independent Study Certificate in Accounting http://www.is.lsu.edu/ACCTCertificateProg.asp?nid=103&Level=CO&Online=1

    2) Then for any credits you are short, do University of West Florida's online Certificate or Master in Accountancy. http://www.uwf.edu/account/index.htm

Not quite all-in-one, but 2 places ain't bad either. If you already have a lot of undergrad accounting courses, you can probably just do everything at UWF.

Just how many more degrees are you planning on doing?????

The new educational rules in Florida require 36 upper-division credit hours in accounting and 39 upper-division general business courses with some exceptions. A microeconomics, a macroeconomics, a business law, a statistics and an introductory computer course can be lower level.

In addition to UWF, Florida Atlantic University has an AACSB accredited Master of Accountancy program available online.

I'm not sure if it's the cheapest, best, fastest way but Liberty University offers a masters degree in accounting.

    Edit: MS in Accounting

$395 per credit, 30 credits, not sure about prereqs.

Thanks for the information and get off my back!! I am not planning any more degrees!! I am just looking at options. To be honest, I will probably take some graduate finance classes and get a CMA after I finish my PhD. Then I am done - for real :)

Wow. That's good to know, even for someone who doesn't want to get a CPA, but needs cheap upper division credits!
