    Greenwich University;

    http://www.greenwichuniversity.us/

Does anyone else find it odd that the website of a school with a .us suffix would want to install a Chinese language pack?

Why would you find that odd? Every scam school should do this!

It is amazing that this school doesn't ever seem to die... sunrise, stakes, holy water, silver bullets, garlic, or a crucifix... Nothing, and I mean nothing, seems to to discourage them.

Latin America too. They tell us:

It might be ungrammatical, but it does make avoiding local education laws a whole lot easier. My guess is that this thing boasts an off-shore business licence in Panama.

Their "elite" management team all have Chinese names and apparently reside in Hong Kong:

    http://www.greenwichuniversity.us/our-structure.php

(Notice that several of them claim affiliation with "WCIMT", presumably West Coast Institute of Management and Technology.)

And just to keep things confusing, they say that their "general office" is located at:

    http://www.greenwichuniversity.us/contact.php

795 Folsom? That turns out to be an old friend. Here's the building:

    http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=140107

Who is their first floor tenant? Why, it's Regus Business Centres, an international firm with branches in hundreds of cities (including HK) that among other things provides virtual office services. (Telephone answering and mail forwarding. Regus addresses are currently very popular with degree mills and phony accreditors.) As I recall, another HK-based vapor-university was claiming to be located in the exact same SF address a couple of years ago and John Bear actually went and visited it. I believe that the receptionist told him that the university wasn't in.

This is really skating close to the edge of the law here in California. I assume that this new Greenwich isn't CA-approved, so it's illegal for it to offer degree programs in this state. Even if it claims to be a Panamanian university, it would still need approval to offer degree programs here. But if these are distance learning programs offered from abroad, and the "general office" is just their local agent, then I'm not sure whether it needs state approval or not.

Whatever the answer is to that, my guess is that Greenwich's clientele is in Asia and that there's probably a Chinese website out there that makes a great deal of this California address. (Stanford! Berkeley! Greenwich!) Maybe hopeful Chinese students send their correspondence off to America, where a forwarding address promptly turns it around and returns it right back where it came from.

But you do have to admire this thing. Despite suffering from the grave handicap of not having any tangible existance anywhere, this university still manages to offer doctoral degrees. Here's their mechanical engineering department's page:

    http://www.greenwichuniversity.us/mechanical-engineering.php

No faculty, no courses, no curricula, no research... no nuthin'. Just a list of advanced degrees offered.

A Dot US company, in Central America, using Chinese Language Pack, charging in Rupees and teaching Islamic studies! Truly a university without boundaries!

There is a Greenwich University in Pakistan. It has a decent reputation as far as local schools go.

The Dot.us site seems to be taken down. They are real fast!

What I find amusing is how adamant they were about their bogus Norfolk Island accreditation and how it was absolutely infallible and above reproach.

    I guess not.

I feel bad for anyone who paid them money for a degree under the guise of their "Australian accreditation". Now that the school is gone, I assume that all transcript processing is as well. In short, people paid and got nothing for their money.

People should keep in mind that this is an old thread from 2007, recently revived.

The Hawaii/Norfolk Island Greenwich that got so much attention here on Degreeinfo over the years still seems to be history. It hasn't lurched out of its grave, looking for brains.

The Chinese/Panamanian one with the phony San Francisco address and the .us url seems to have dissappeared as well. Easy come, easy go.

We now learn that there's a mystery Greenwich operating in Pakistan as well. I know little about that one and have little faith in it.

And obviously there's Britain's 100% legitimate Greenwich University in the historic Greenwich section in London. This one has taken over some of the historic old Royal Naval College buildings, next to the National Maritime Museum and the old Greenwich Observatory. (Think 'Greenwich Mean Time'.)

    http://www.greenwich.ac.uk

This last is a British public university and is obviously unrelated to the other Greenwich's.

Is there any evidence that the other three Asian-Pacific ones are related to one another in any way, beyond their choice of the same classy-sounding pseudo-British name?

It would be very strange that a university in Pakistan will call it Greenwich.

    More on WAUC and Pakistan

I just remembered. Abdul Basit, supreme head of Preston U (Pakistan) is, I believe, a former Vice-Pesident of Dr. Maxine Klein Asher's WAUC.

Last I heard, Preston had about nine campuses in Pakistan, and only two of them (Karachi and Kohat) were still on the Pakistan HEC approved list. I looked today and still found the Karachi campus on the HEC site. I don't know if the other Pakistan locations are still in operation or not. I also read accounts (some time ago) of Preston grads in Pakistan being refused entry (reason: deficient degrees) when applying for further (Master's etc.) programs at other HEC-authorized universities.

Preston US, (we had long threads on it) was originally in Wyoming - left when accreditation became mandatory. Then got an Alabama license which was subsequently not renewed, and closed its Alabama location pursuant to a cease-and-desist order. Preston now has a US address in California. (LA)

Still sounds like a "nice American school"... peddling "Nice American degrees" to foreigners. I doubt Preston has any US-based students any more... It did offer to act as registrar of record for Warren National U. alumni, when that school closed in 2009.
