My initial purpose of this thread was to highlight the rising trend between universities with regards to federal student loans. It was NEVER my intention to degrade another university, in this particular situation Capalla. This dilemma is a growing issue among all universities. What is intriguing about this story and other recent cases is each involves the same company ”Student Loan Xpress Inc" Capalla, is just one of many universities that is being investigated. The article stated Capalla's proactive approach. With that said I genuinely believe Capalla is a fine institution and the responders on this board whom are alumni should be proud, as I will be of Walden.

Hortonka I am glad that you clarified your rationale for starting this thread which obviously was not intended to initiate a rallying cry and an immediate knee jerk reaction on the part of Capella alumni to go on the defensive! This is not the only time this knee jerk reaction has occured but one of many that merely serves to show how insecure certain alumni/students feel about their distance learning schools and degrees! In fact, contrary to PsychPHDs spurious accusations that I am always making negative statements against Capella I recently defended PsychPhds doctoral degree in Psychology from Capella against Steve Levicoff who attempted to prove it was worthless! He forgets very quickly doen't he; maybe its his extremely high level of defensiveness that interferes with his short-term recall!

Most importantly I will make a pact with PsychPhd that if he can provide an example of the negative sentiments (we are not talking about my experiences with this school BUT actual denigrating statements without a basis) he alledges I have made against his school, I will leave this forum. If not he should leave because quite frankly it will prove that his credibility is questionable for making such spurious assertions against another poster that are self-serving and DEFENSIVE.

I, for one, am very pleased to see my alma matre mentioned in the same breath as the esteemed Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, and the University of Southern California. That is the mental filter I will choose to use in remembering this article.

No my friend, not so fast. You made specific accusations that I had posted bad things about your school now it is in your corner to support your contention! No one is setting you up; you are doing a good job of that yourself! You made false allegations and it is up to you to do the search, not others! In addition you conveniently omit the fact that I took on Mr. Levikoff when he commented that your doctorate in Psychology from Capella was invalid and worthless because it shows the levels that you will go to to attempt to undermine another poster who provides you with valid feedback that you do not want to acknowledge.

keep in mind that if you cannot produce specific examples of my putting down your school as well as not acknowledging my defense of your degree and school as mentioned above, then you do not belong on this forum.

Exactlly Paul because it is obvious that you are secure in the degree you obtained and the school you obtained it from. And this is the gist of my point. When ANY poster needs to react strongly to every new report, other posters' experiences and innocuous comments regarding their respective school with such misinterpretations resulting in overwhelming defensiveness, it makes one feel as if something is awry and that these guys may be telling us something subconsciously regareding the value of their degrees and their insecurity with the legitmacy of their schools! This is bad advertisement for other prospective students because it makes them think that distance learning schools may not be on par with brick and mortar, and this is obviously not the case.

As recently noted in my defense of distance online doctoral programs in Psychology from Capella, there is no need for anyone who obtains distance learning degrees to be defensive about their attainment but to be proud of it. This is demonstrated by being open to other posters' comments, whether positive or not as well as to news reports such as the one that initiated this thread without interjecting defensive comments about how well this or that school handled the situation. By merely demonstrating a high level of receptivity and openess an a willingness to process others' pespectives (unless of course they are bent on ventilating negative feelings without a basis) is the best advertisement for the validity of these schools and its graduates. This is especially true for individuals who graduate with a doctorate who should be modeling this level of composure and security with their degrees and their alma mater.

    Is this goodbye?

Wow .. didn't realize you completed your review of your own postings already! :)

Of course you will not notice that I deliberately am refusing to engage you in the standard back-and-forth because it has become ABUNDANTLY clear that you cannot (will not?) see the very baiting behavior in yourself that you claim to see in so many others.

It is not my job to prove the lack of value in your contributions, my "friend," it is YOUR job to prove their worth!

To everyone else, for the record, I too am proud of the work I did for my doctorate and the education I received at Capella. As an educator, however, it makes my teeth itch when people attempt to sugar coat illogic and ad hominem attacks with false civility and pseudo-intellectualism.

Just because a couple of the people who attempted to clarify the scope of the original posting happened to have ties to Capella should not immediately invalidate their contributions or their concerns. Those who react reflexively and question the motives of contributors simply because they have connections to a particular program are the dangerous ones on a forum such as this one.

Just as I thought. You hide behind your anonymity making all sorts of intentional spurious allegations against another poster and then DEFENSIVELY conjure up a spurious rationale as to why you do not have to provide corrobrorative date to support your contentions. In fact you can't because there is no such data my manipulative friend and you intentionally decieved other members of this board with untrue statements. What a sham. And you are a model of a graduate of a distance learning doctoral program? You have just impaled yourself with your lack of intergrity my friend as well as questionable crediblity.

I trust my tongue-in-check comment was understood as such. But, like they say, any press is good press....I think

there might be a bigger problem here

I find working in education costs me about $3k-$5k a month at least in lost wages until I can get full time(then it just cost me $2500/month). This system is a constant and lends itself only to those who either have a great nest egg or a partner that can support the family.

So you see employees double hatting within the education field. Its to be expected, and the schools may try to have policies to stop it, but you have to earn?

I am not defending the actions that may (or may not) have occured here. But given the pay at some schools, $13/module. Any employee in education needs to seek other work, the schools need to look at better control methods that don't harm the employee.
