Does anyone know how I can find out if the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa participates in the Federal Student Aid program? Thanks!

Is it true that a school must be accredited by some US/CHEA organization before students can be eligible for US federal financial aid? If so then the answer to your question is, "no."

Nothing I have encountered on the subject says that schools must hold US accreditation in order to participate in the FFEL program.

I thought a new federal law disallowed distance learning from foreign schools.

thanks for the info! Actuallly I am not necessarily asking for financial aid purposes, but taxes. apparently, so long as a school is certified for FSA, the tuition can be counted as a tax deduction. So says my accountant.

It's good to know that if it is then it definitely is an acceptable deduction, but even if it's not on the federal system can't it still be a qualifying educational expense if it's for real?

His CPA is correct. The institution must participate in the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs.

This is true, but depending on several factors including the program and current job situation, education expenses from a provider that is not a federal financial aid participant might be deductible as qualifying work related education.

Of course, it is a slam dunk if the school is a financial aid participant.

Stellenbosch University Federal School Code and loans

    I have 2 questions:

    1. Can US students receive loans for tuition and living expenses to attend Stellenbosch University?

    2. What is the current Federal School code for the University of Stellenbosch?

Thanks you so much for your help.

    Does not appear so...
    https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/schoolSearch?locale=en_EN

Same for foreign school Stafford loans...

However, although this may be outdated:

    UNIVERSITY OF STELLENBOSCH
    STELLENBOSCH, SOUTH AFRICA
    WILCOCKS BUILDING SOUTH ENTRA
    FEDERAL SCHOOL CODE: G24966
