Ok, I did a bunch of searching on this forum and I looks like COSC will except FEMA credits from FCC but not TESC. Is this correct? Will they accept IS-3: Radiological Emergency Management as Upper Division credit from FCC? Why can't I credit bank this at TESC, and get this transfered from COSC?
I believe there is a thread somewhere on this board from someone that eventually got COSC to accept the FEMA credits without going through FCC. I don't recall whether they were first banked at TESC or whether they were accepted directly from FEMA, but I believe they were banked at TESC. Pug
Was it a big hassle to transfer the credits from TESC? Did COSC give you credit for UD on the following classes? EDM 303 - IS513 EDM 399 - IS003
At first they rejected my credits. Then, after much debate, they finally agreed to accept them. All the credits that were accepted were considered lower level, including EDM399.
So, what's the skinny on COSC and FEMA After reading a number of posts on this topic I have to ask the question. Does COSC accept the FEMA credits? Do they have to go through TESC's credit bank to be acceptable for credit at COSC? If I recall correctly, one person may have had their FEMA credits accepted at COSC via a TESC credit bank. However, I don't know if I had misread that or someone just alluded to such. Bing
This isn't an uncommon issue, most schools won't transfer credit from a transfer transcript. Let's say you attend UNLV and then transfer the credit to UVa. You want to go to Clemson so you send a UVa transcript to Clemson. Clemson will not transfer the UNLV credit from the UVa transcript - they need to see the UNLV and the UVa. transcripts. Same with FEMA credit at many schools. Just because it's on a TESC transcript doesn't mean every other school will accept it directly off that transcript. Now, if someone transcripts it so that it appears as their own credit - it will fly many places but only because it's misleading. Sometimes, as in the case of COSC and Excelsior, you can use the fact that another RA (TESC) has accepted the credit as a basis for arguing that they should as well. It still remains up to the institution accepting the credit though. It's always the prerogative of the receiving college whether they accept any credit in transfer - it's not an automatic right as many people believe. If you approach it as "you have to accept it because..." then you put them in a position that they will defend.
That's why I asked specifically if anyone knew whether FEMA was accepted by COSC for credit. I didn't ask about any other receiving college. I think TESC does accept those credits. I didn't mention anything about acceptance rights. Certainly your points are good when looking to transfer credits to any school. I found the same with Air Force credits. I received an Associates Degree at TESC using many FEMA credits. I then, transferred them to COSC towards a Bachelors Degree. COSC accepted every credit, 30+ directly from TESC as lower level credit.
Howdy, Bing. What was the issue with the AF credits? Provided they were transcripted via CCAF (Community College of the Air Force), they were from a regionally accredited institution. Just curious - I'm a big fan of CCAF. Dave
Not sure about CCAF but I was thinking some of the schools I had attended in the Air Force. When I was looking to go into another field, business, I found that some schools took credits and others didn't. I recall that University of Arizona did not think that a few of my management type courses were worth any credit. USNY accepted them and gave me 2 credits apiece. So, that's what's up with the Air Force credits. Bing
I can tell you I am going through the enrollment process for TESC's Associate of Applied Science program, concentration in Occupational Studies. I am having my transcripts reviewed now, but I expect about 30 FEMA credits to be accepted to satisfy the concentration and open electives. Pug
