Hello, I am currently enrolled in the online BS in Psychology program offered via Drexel University. While I am happy with the program, I would like to finish up my Bachelor's degree this year (if I stay at Drexel it will take me another 3 to 5 years to graduate!). Thus, I have created a degree plan to obtain a BS in Psychology via Excelsior College. Listed below are the details of the plan. My goal is to finish up my BS by the end of July (2007). Does this plan make sense. Will it work? I would greatly appreciate any feedback from current students or graduates of Excelsior. To keep this relatively brief, I'm not going to list where the credits came from, but rest assured that all of the schools are RA. BTW, all credits are listed as semester hours. Everything below has been completed, with the exception of Eng 102 (next term) and the Psych GRE. Written English Requirement Eng 101 = 2cr. Eng 102 = 2cr. Information Literacy Info Literacy & Report Writing = 3cr. Humanities Various Music Credits = 9cr. Comm 100 = 3cr. Phil 101 = 2cr. Social Sciences/History His 103 (History to 1870) = 3cr. Ant 104 (Intro to Cultural Anthro) = 3cr. Psy 101 (Intro to Psych) = 2cr. Soc 101 (Intro to Sociology) = 2cr. Natural Sciences/Math MTH 210 (Prob/Stats) = 3cr. SCI 100 (Biology) = 3cr. Applied Professional Gen 101 (Skills for lifelong learning) = 3cr. BKM 400 (Business Knowledge Mgmt) = 3cr. FEMA EMI Courses (via TESC Credit Bank) = 38cr. Psych Major Psy 101 (Intro to Psych) ALSO MEETS GEN. ED. REQ.= 2cr. MTH210 (Prob/Stats) ALSO MEETS GEN. ED. REQ.= 3cr. Psych GRE = 30cr. (hopefully!) Does this look about right? Did I miss anything? If I receive 30 credits from the Psych GRE, I will have a total of 111 credits, and therefore I will need approximately 9 credits in order to graduate. Are there any CLEP or DANTES exams out there to that would fill in the remaining credits? Thanks! - Tom
Psych 101 will undoubtedly be duplicated in the GRE credits, meaning you will not get those credits plus another 30. I prefer to take coursework credits over test credits where there is overlap, but regardless of how you do it, they will not give both. (They will reduce the GRE credits by 2 if you choose to keep the classwork on your transcript, I believe.) I am not sure about the statistics credit. It seems reasonable that it doesnt overlap, but it is part of the 30 credits required for a Psych major, so I would ask to be sure. Elizabeth
