    I need your advice.
I have to take an exam to complete Excelsior's WER. I have heard the easiest us the TESC English exam and next is ECE College Writing.
Has anyone taken any of the two and if yes please please provide feedback and what tyoe of essays are expected in the ECE exam.
I am not a native english speaker and hence am really worried about this one.
I want to do this by exam and not courses because i am close to completing my degree and want to complete it by Feb end.
    Thanks,
    Adoncia

I did not find the ECE writing exam to be easy at all - contrary, it was serious. I took the ENGX111 Exam. The essay was a complete college comp. class essay and there were three of them.

The easiest way to meet that requirement would probably have to be taking an in-the-seat freshman comp class at local community college

I'm thinking about taking the WER at LSU. Has anyone done this?

    Thanks CoachTurner,
i cannot afford to take a class at a community college or even an English course because i need to complete the degree really soon and am almost at the end of it.
I was wondering if anyone has taken the TESC English exam as that one is supposed to be easier.
Are there any very short online courses that i can take..like one month courses?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Adoncia

Was it by any chance the 6 credit exam that you took. The college writing exam is 3 credits and there are 3 essays and nothing else i believe.

Yes, I took the 6 credit exam - ENGX111; ECE English Composition 434 for 6 semester hours. It was not an easy exam and I have a strong background in writing and literature.

Note too: it took a full six weeks for me to get that essay exam grade back. It was the last requirement in my program. Then there was a bit of time to completion of all the paperwork and conferral. It was about 3 months from the time I finished this exam to degree conferral. Your timeline to finish by February may not be achievable using this route.

My wife did that. Had terrible time figuring out the instructor's grading criteria. She once got a D and a B+ for two consecutive (and very similar) essays - go figure! If you want the "easiest" and the least stressful way, this is not it.

Yes, I did it through LSU's Independent Study course; not too difficult and not too expensive either - Good Luck!!

    Hi,

I am currently enrolled at Drexel University and I am taking English 101 this term. Drexel operates on a quarter credit system. If I transfer to one of the "Big 3" schools (actually, Excelsior or TESC), will this course fulfill the Written English requirement? When converted from quarter to semester units, this class will only equate to 2 semester hours.

Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? BTW, I will also have quarter credits from Drexel U. for Sociology 101, Psych 101 and Philosophy 101. Not sure if these courses will directly transfer to Excelsior or TESC.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

TECEP English Comp I is the easiest option out there.
If engish is your first language you're almost guaranteed to pass.
Excelsior does not assign a grade to TECEP exams they are pass/fail.
I just took it "cold" and passed with 91%.
    Good luck

I was directed to this on another thread:

    http://www.uidaho.edu/isi/courses/engl101.htm

English 101, 100% distance, No Final Exam, No Proctored Exams, Pass Fail. Excelsior gave me the green light to take this to complete the WER. I think it will cost $325, expensive but convenient!

    Any comments?

$325 for a 3 hour class isn't expensive. That's a good deal! just my opinion. I'm accustomed to paying nearly that per semester hour.

Wow! Just what I've been looking for! Not having to take exams is a big time saver and money saver since I'd have to add another $60 to pay for the proctor! I've just requested the OK from Excelsior and will register for this course as soon as I've got my green light :D.

    Thanks for that!
