There are a number of universities that distance learning as part of their offerings. The ones listed above are probably the universities with the most courses in distance learning. They have been set up to deal with rural areas etc. All are GAAP approved. Some have DETC approval as well. Why I don't know, as accreitation in the US format has no relevance here. Maybe for US students? Deakin University http://www.deakin.edu.au/online-offcampus/distance.php Open Universities lists a number. All are fairly large universities. http://www.open.edu.au/wps/portal

The University of New England is a large provider of distance education. It has been involved in the field for many years and is a thoroughly accredited, legitimate institution. For the record, I have a Master of Letters from UNE which was completed externally. The website is http://www.une.edu.au/ As to the question about why some Australian univerities have DETC accreditation in the US my understanding is that they sought the accreditation to be more attractive to potential students in the US who feel more comfortable with accreditation they recognise.
................................................................................................ I have just completed a primarily distance learning MBA through Deakin. Overall, they quite good. CFR
