Does Excelsior waive a lower level course requirement if an upper-level courses has been completed that has the lower-level course as a prerequisite?

For example, would they make someone with 15 upper-level credits in psychology take gen psych? Does anyone know there policy on this?

    Hi Foobar,

All requirements must be met. General Psychology (Intro to Psychology) is a required course for all Psychology majors at Excelsior. The fact that you already have 15 upper level credits will not change the fact that you still have not yet met the General Psychology requirement.

The only time having upper level credit would negate the lower level requirement would be if Excelsior stipulates that you must have the lower level credits "or above". For example, if you took Calculus III, you would no longer need to take Precalculus if the catalog stipulates "Precalculus, OR above".

But in the case of Intro to Psychology, it is a fixed requirement. Taking a higher level course will not supercede the lower level requirement. You must take Intro to Psychology AND 15 upper level credits.

    Hope that makes sense!
