Longtime lurker, who hardly ever posts...and a Bellevue graduate here. I was just going through the recently released US News & WR college rankings and saw that Bellevue is on the list

It's in the Masters - Midwest, 4th tier category...which I'm sure doesn't mean a whole lot to anyone (including us Bellevue grads), but that's not bad for an open admissions school.

    Just FYI.

Well, I think it's cool! A little validation never hurts. What is your degree in?

    BU degree

    Dave,

Same as yours I think...the Business Information Systems degree. I was actually in the same class as fellow forum member spmoran.

I figured Sean might jump in here at some point, and I know Ray Trautman is in Bellevue's MBA program. Sems like a few of us scattered around here....any others?

That's not bad news at all! I see Fort Hays State University and Peru State College on the list as well, both of which are often mentioned here as bargains in RA online education.

Woohoo! I saw that Bellevue made another list there regarding acceptance. It was 100%. Now, to be frank, I don't know what exactly defines acceptance (I assume it's entry from Bellevue into a higher degree at another school, but I'd like clarification). That said, I enjoyed a moment of recognition for not picking the Flako State University (or whatever other school could have been awful) and making the List. Now, since U.S. News and World Report is run by Mort Zuckerman, and Mort is a freind of Steven Colbert, then this report must contain a degree of "truthiness" :)

Acceptance in this context means acceptance of applicants into the school; Bellevue, of course, is open admission. (And entirely proud of and open about it; it's the first body text you can read on their website.)

Sorry to rain on the parade, but every RA, traditional B&M school is in that directory. The fourth tier signifies the bottom 25% of those who fall under the Masters category.

Not quite. A relatively small number of schools, but including a fair contingent of nontraditional schools in distance learningland, are listed but not ranked; besides the assessment colleges (the Big Three), these include evenings-and-distance sort of schools which are B&M for some people (City University, the University of Phoenix), and uniquely specialized schools.

Excelsior College: Liberal Arts Colleges, unranked
Charter Oak State College: International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked
Thomas Edison State College: Universities–Master's (North), unranked

City University (WA): Universities - Master's, West, unranked
DeVry University: International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked
University of Phoenix: International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked
Western International University: International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked

Berklee College of Music: Unranked Specialty School–Fine Arts

There's no point in even trying to rank some of these schools by US News composite score... (underlining, perhaps, the question of how much point there is ranking any others thereby...)

"Every"? Oh me, oh my....apparently, I'm slipping in status all the time. Check out the running thread on DD; at least there I'm a member of a "third rate trailer park' community.

Every would include "every B&M university" in the world? The western world? The U.S? The, um, intent (cough, embarassed cough) of this forum is oh, I don't know, maybe "Distance Learning"?

Personally, I could really care less whether Bellevue fell into "tier X" or tier Y". Those of us that attended the university via DL are glad to see it mentioned. And, I might add, pretty happy about the benefits the degree resulted in. No pretention, no undue claim to fame. Anything behind this post, or just feel like fanning the flames?

That's why I said traditional. Those schools are "specialized".

You missed where I said RA, making this a US specific listing.

Apparently you are the one who has misunderstood the point of this thread. The original poster clearly thought Bellevue had received some special degree of recognition from the US News committee. But the fact is the only thing the magazine has recognized is it's existance.

If I see an incorrect assumption, I will correct it. If you want a forum where only positive facts are posted and congratulations given out, perhaps a serious discussion on distance learning is not for you!

Or focus on adult education. Both factors making them non traditional.

    Vincey37;

Re-reading it, you're right - maybe I don't need to be posting late at night. ;) . Sorry if I got a bit snippy - have a great day.

    To Vincey37

No, the original poster didn't think that Bellevue had received some "special" recognition...but honestly, I didn't know that every school was included in the listing in some way or another (hence the "not bad for an open admissions school" comment). I was just pretty darn sure that I didn't see Bellevue listed ANYWHERE in last years rankings, and I specifically looked for it. If you read my original post, I just said that it's "on the list". That's it. Thanks for the info though, I see that there is a lot more to the rankings than I knew. Thanks.

Give them a couple years and they will be competing with Princeton and Harvard for the top spot. ;)
