Does anyone know if UNISA or IACI qualify for guaranteed student loans or if any DL Research PhD programs qualify?

    Thanks.

If I recall correctly, a bill is being considered (has it passed?) that will not allow government student loans to be used at international schools.

Anyone have any more info on this?

I used to have the list of foreign institutions that could process Title IV funding, and while I no longer have it, I remember that the only South African school on the Title IV list is the University of Cape Town. It seemed most British unviersities were on the list, though.

Anyway, the proposal, if I recall correctly, would disallow use of Title IV funding for distance learning study through a foreign unviersity, not study at a foreign university altogether. It would be interesting to see whether research-only programs at British, South African, Australian, etc. schools would be considered distance.

I think this bill/law is what has taken the lustre off of the Charles Sturt I.T. programs for Americans. Unless I am mistaken it is now ~1650 USD per course out of pocket.

I don't know the specifics of the distance education restriction, but UNISA is not on the Title IV list. Cape Town is, as Steve said, and so is Stellenbosch.

Thanks for the information. I found a website about international student loans and it only lists the two listed in this thread. I was hopeful that perhaps UNISA would qualify through their agent in Canada, but no such luck.
