  1. to you guys know it tuition assistance or the GI bill pays for graduation fees and other misc fees?

The MGIB pays for your tuition is base on credit hours. Such as 12 credits is full time, 6 credit is half time. Then They'll pay you monthly; therefore, you can use the money for room & board, tuition, books, food, or whatever. The tuition assistance would pays for misc. fees within the courses; such as lab fee, technology fee, and etc... The Tuition assistance does not pay for graduation fee, cap & gown, transcripts, and etc. Once you apply for tuition assistance, you are required to fill out the T-A form, and you must specify the tuitions fee and course fee. $250.00/credit max.

    Hope that answers your question.

    originalbigjim,
I believe the GI bill will pay for those fees as long as the school will report them to the VA. I just graduated from Excelsior and I know they will report enrollment and graduation fees to the VA. Their only requirement is that you pass Excelsior classes/exams that applies toward your degree.

  5. do you mean meet the residency for cheaper graduation?
i am looking at bachlors in liberal studies at excleisor, how much did you pay out of pocket for that. and what option did you use?

You can disregard what I said about the requirement to pass Excelsior classes/exams. You just have to take and pass Excelsior classes/exams OR classes from other accredited colleges. You must take these classes after you enroll in order to be eligible for the GI bill. But you should talk to the financial office at EC to make sure.

I used the option that didn't require me to take EC classes. Since the GI bill paid for my enrollment/graduation fees and the CLEP/DSST/ECE exams were free, the only things I paid out-of-pocket for were my books.

  7. thanks for the info, it is very encouraging. i was kinda freaking out about how much money it is.

When you use your GI Bill on active duty it has different rules than when you use it as a civilian. As a civilian they will pay, as TEKMAN has said, by the number of hours you are enrolled in, and they pay you monthly.

If you are on active duty, they will pay the amount of the tuition (and fees I believe), as long the cost does not go over what you are authorized by rate, e.g. half time, full time, etc., but will not pay you over the amount of tuition regardless of the number of hours you are taking. For example, if you are a full time student and you are authorized $1002 or whatever the current rate is, but your tuition is $750, then you will only receive $750, paid monthly while you are enrolled in your courses.

BTW, GI Bill Top Up has different rules. If your tuition is $1560 per 3 SH course, and you use military tuition assistance (which will pay $750), you submit your voucher to the VA as a Top Up payment and they will pay the remaining $810. There are various rules that apply, talk to your ed center or check out the VA website.
