Thanks, Paul! You said it... many other obstacles that intrude on this Ph.D. journey and it becomes a juggling act and a challenge to one's inner spirit in order to stay in the fight until done. Thank you!

Alex's mom... You have fine son. I spoke to him on the phone recently and found him to be quite an amazing person who has tremendous inner strength and dedication. You did a great job! That's why he's got the stuff to do a Ph.D. (finished a Capella doctorate). Thank you for your kind comment.

Your post was a breath of fresh air for this forum.

We read and respond to questions on this forum about accreditation, degree usefulness, finding degree programs, etc. so often that it becomes easy to lose sight of the end result. Your accomplishment is no small feat and one to be proud of. I hope to someday finish my current degree program and post a similar thread.

Don't worry, I was kidding. Usually people are announcing here that they've completed a Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's, and someone always asks the obligatory question "So where are you doing your Bachelor's/Master's/Doctorate?" I'm not we've had a PhD in a while, so it was the best I could devise to keep that celebratory hazing ritual alive. :D

    Thank you, guys!

I do need rest. I continue to walk around in a fog not knowing what to do when folks call me "Dr."

A neuropsychologist that I work with at a clinic came up to me and shared pointers of how to use the title.

    1. When making reservations at a restaurant, always first use "Dr."

    2. When calling up another doctor and getting the receptionist, always introduce yourself as "Dr. So and so." This will give immediate access to the other doctor.

Thank you. I certainly appreceate it! Hang in there with your proposal. I found that the earlier parts of the dissertation are harder to get through in terms of figuring out how it fits together. I had to redo my proposal around 4-6 times because I did not quite figure out how to navigate through that process of formation. Don't give up!

    Greetings Dr. Blackbird,

I am following behind you in the Capella system and the news of your completion is a much needed psychological boost.

The dissertation process seems somewhat like an organized hazing process. I certainly find it the least enjoyable part of the doctoral process. However, to get to the goal of earning a PhD it is a ncecessary component. You my friend completed the mission. Savor the accomplishment.

    Congratulations.

    Well, hell!

Yes! I've been watching for a while now. You were in the Capella program when I first started on the forum and now, tada, you've made it. Super duper congrats!
I have considered Capella after I finish my Masters at U of West Alabama in counseling psych. (Or, I may just forego the UWA degree and settle with Capella.) Thanks for being inspiring, Doctor! I just finished my M.F.A and have no fun title. (And the initials seem somehow profane.)

    Dr. Tug,

Hang in there... You will make it. There were times I wanted to quit and/or I experienced great obstacles of sorts (sick, physical accidents, emotional encroachments, family needs, competing responsibilities, etc.). I had too much invested in terms of time, effort, heart, blood, and guts. I could not quit, even if I wanted.

I'm glad I stuck to my course. You will be glad also and we will cheer for you.

The race is hard but good!

    Re: Well, hell!

Getting an MFA is no simple feat! It is hard work and also... it is a terminal degree. You can go far with it in the art and academic world. I salute you for getting one. Thank you for your congrats. I appreciate it. I hope to use my degree to bless peoples' lives and serve them. I am not used to carrying the title yet. An office of doctors where I work part-time gave me a shirt with the monogram of "Dr. Sam" (I am Sam :)). I got a tickle from that so I wore it to the college where I teach at also. It was fun. Hang in there and go as far as you can.
