    Hello all,

As of May 9, 2006...my Excelsior College Bachelor of Science Degree in Philosophy is complete! Credit total is 121.74 credits..

The degree will be conferred on June 16th (if not sooner). The issues I had with the school you may have read about in other posts, are resolved. They ultimately missed a course in my evaluation (even though they removed duplicated credit). We will be parting on amicable terms.

You're all invited to my commencement ceremony on July 14, 2006 in Albany, NY at 3PM - The Empire State Plaza Convention Center. If you want details, call Excelsior College: 1-888-647-2388 .

Thanks for the support and help on this forum. I will update this post when my degree is actually conferred.

    - Shawn

    Ted,

You're kidding, right? I mean I JUST got done with a Bachelor's degree...LOL! I have ideas for a Master's, but I'm going to rest for a while. It has taken me seven solid consecutive years to fulfill a 16 year old dream. I'm going to relish it for a while.

    Abner,

And after all the feelings I had about almost dropping out, I think on a huge level I'm glad I stuck with it. The only conflict I have now, is feeling excited about having taken seven years to complete a 4 year degree (or 16 years, if you count back since my high school years)...LOL. I think I'll just be excited that I'm done, period. I'm too exhausted to fight with myself. Geez, what will a Master's look like?

I might be collecting Social Security by the time I get it...ROFL!!!!!

In any event, the Bachelor's is done. My G.P.A. in my major by the way is 3.06 . With Psi Beta; Phi Theta Kappa; and the National Dean's List (1999-2005), as part of my undergraduate academic history.

Congratulations. I just finished my AS Business there a few months back.

So what career options are available nowadays with a philosophy degree? Will it be necessary to ger a masters? Is teaching the main option career wise?

    Let us know, thanks

Re: Re: My Excelsior Degree is Finished!!!

My diploma arrived in the mail today. I can't even begin to tell you how emotionally charged the moment was as I opened the package with my best friend at my side. I am feeling very intoxicated with the reality of this completed dream. I have really no words to describe it.

Its soooo surreal. Of course, the graduation ceremony come July will be even more intense...I have no doubt of that. Thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes, I very much appreciate it.

Some time next year or so I'll get started on a Master's Degree...rest assured too that this is not the last you'll hear from me. I'll be lurking around to help out fellow students.

    - Shawn

P.S.: The message board posting date stamp is off by one day behind (clock format is off by about 16 hours - based on PST when I wrote this post)...the diploma arrived on the 22nd.
