As per me the certification is good for software programmers who have 5+ years of experience. However once you have 10+ years of experience, it no longer carries much weigth. Rather than doing you CSDP, get PMP or CISA certified.

You didn't provide a link, but nothing in there seemed any less ridiculous than that absurd "Certified MBA" we discussed about a year ago.

The certification in my opinion is more for Software Engineers
the problem is that in USA Engineer is protected title.

It slowly earned reputation among these who understand the difference between

    Programmer

    Software Developer

    Software Engineer

Well this is like the PE of Software Engineering.

People who can approach and provide solutions not by just writing code but by Engineering the solution, I have an honor to work with such a persons and can see the day and night defense between them and others who are Programmers and Software Developers. The class Factories, the Libraries they develop, the modeling and other Engineering tools and approach they use not only produces
optimal solution and performance but it is simply Engineered correctly. One of them is PhD and teaches Software Engineering in University on a P.T basis.

Steve I think this is very relevant certification and an attempt to create the PMP type of certification for Software Engineers.

Time will show - and I don't compare it to CMBA, CSDP is a mach better defined and in a class of its own certification.

USA Universities politicaly opose to many of the Professional qualifications for many reasons and can be discussed in another tread.

The other best alternative is Masters Degree in Software Engineering from ABET University with good Engineering school.

    My humble opinion

Okay, I suppose it's from IEEE, so my default response to it shouldn't be so skeptical. However, time will tell if the marketplace decides that those who hold this certification will command a premium over those who do not.

    Steve I agree with you,
If I compare PMP with Masters in Project Management I see that in the market place PMP has a special place. And even this is at times stronger and other times not as strong if I express my salve correctly.

I judge by DICE, Monster etc, job requirements.

So in this case I stated my own opinion and this certification is not new its been around for 3 years.

I don't see any adds requiring this credential not yet.
