This is very relative, a DBA from Harvard will certainly open more doors than a PhD from NCU. In my opinion, a PhD or DBA will be useful when the position requires it (e.g. faculty positions or research positions). For regular industry positions there is no really reason to go for a PhD or DBA as you might be even considered over qualified for some positions.

The only reason that I would consider a PhD from NCU is I'm interested in a career as a faculty member or research position. I would also consider it if I want to become an independent consultant where the PhD title besides your business card might attract some customers.

Don't waste your money on a DBA from a university from Down Under. One wasted my time and money.

This leads to the reason why I plan to take a PhD programme by distance learning or at the very least, by part-time mode. It would be painful trying to explain what I have been engaged in during those years if I take a good 3-year PhD programme by full-time on-campus mode. Thanks to the concept of DL. :)

Indeed, I only include my DBA when applying to teaching positions and leave it out when applying to industrial positions. A DBA or PhD would normally leave you out of most industrial jobs that normally require only a Master's at the most. As I said, there is no real point to complete a PhD from a low tier school like NCU other than teaching or conducting research.

I would not pursue a doctorate in business as a way to become competitive in industry. I don't believe it would help. A master's degree and some form of professional certification would be the best credentials, in my opinion. I believe the doctorate in business degree is best suited for academia or consulting.
