I'm enrolled at Excelsior and about 30 years away from my last math class! I was an advanced math whiz in high school, actually tutored the other kids, but ended up with really bad math anxiety in college. I'm looking for an online class that is relatively inexpensive and that is easy (building block type, not just thrown in!). I'm willing to do proctored exams as long as there aren't a lot of them. I know it sounds like the dream class and that's just what I'm looking for! Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Denise,

If you are comfortable with independent study I would recommend you to consider the CLEP College Algebra exam that also satisfies the Excelsior math requirement.
Here are some of the advantages:
    -it costs only $55
-you have a flexible time and study schedule
-You will receive a grade for the exam at Excelsior; thus you can boost your GPA(of course, only if you do well)
-there are lots of good and inexpensive books that will teach you the material covered on the exam(e.g. Cliff Quick Review College Algebra)

Hope this will give you some food for thought

I thought about the CLEP, but I think I need a class - I'm really math phobic now! I'm going to test out of most everything else, but math scares me!

Thank you all for your great recommendations - if anyone else has any, let me know. I'm going to try to make a decision by the end of this month.

Sign up for Excelsior's College Mathematics course. You can't find a course much easier than that. Excelsior accepts it toward their math requirement.

This independent study class at the University of South Carolina looks easy enough to finish, and challenging enough to learn something.

...and at only $300 and having only one final proctored exam, it seems fairly student friendly as well.
