Has anyone here ever attended either the University of the West Indies (any of the three campuses) or the University of Guyana, especially for postgraduate study?

I ask because I'm a Dominican citizen by marriage, and it occurs to me that if I'm considering South African universities, I should also look at the similar options in my own back yard. I know UWI has PhD programs, and since it started as a college of the University of London and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities it's internationally recognized. My research interest is in development studies, so that fits too. I don't know much about the University of Guyana, though.

So I've exhumed this thread just because I stumbled over this school while on another search. The Open Campus of UWI offers a bunch of undergrad and grad degrees but in the short time I spent on their site I wasn't able to see that any of them were offered solely through distance learning. Damn, you might have to actually go to Barbados.:frown:

The University Council of Jamaica and the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission are the entities that determine accreditation of Jamaican schools and programs. Here's a list of accredited schools, most of which I've never heard of and most of which have no DL programs.

Sometimes I think about moving to a place like that on a student visa and living on the beach or something. Maybe I'll win Powerball tomorrow and then we can all move to Jamaica and live on the beach, my treat.

For anyone who likes light-hearted murder mystery shows (e.g., Murder She Wrote, Midsomer Murders), there's a charming little series called Death in Paradise that's filmed in small town Guadeloupe and which does a good job capturing the spirit of life on some of the smaller islands. It's available on Netflix (at least in the USA).
