I have heard of some schools in other countries offering MDs by distance but nothing conclusive. Are their any good overseas schools that offer decent medical degrees that can be done in part by DL at affordable tuition rates? Thanks.

No, Amigo, there is no place.
If there were distance MDs, so in the future there would be distance treatments and distance surgeries....
    :D :D :D

Would you go to a doc that took general surgery 101 online?

Something sticks in my mind about a project to deliver non-clinical course work via distance learning for some med schools (as a way of streamlining ed for doctors around the world). Can't find my source however.

But I came across this - don't know what to make of it.

    World Health Medical School
We employ a method of accelerated learning that bypasses books, classrooms, and lectures while teaching all factual information a student must know to become a doctor. This site teaches the student how to employ accelerated learning and presents the evidence for its success. But we take it several steps further. Complex medical information is predigested—broken down into its smallest component fact units or "fragments." Every technical term is defined. Difficult terms are pronounced audibly. The information is presented in a question-and-answer format.

It seems there soon will be distance surgeries! (or "tele-surgeries") :D
    Read this: http://www.nysun.com/article/25973?page_no=1

qoute: Dr. Samadi soon plans to perform tele-surgery on patients abroad. His experiences will go into a book that he hopes to write.

That is not really new. Stryker has a virtual O.R. with robotics.

    Greetings Amigo,

Indeed there is a way to take the classroom courses of a medical education through a school in the Caribbean. Below is specific information and how to contact them. Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes if you decide to pursue their program.

    Tug

The International University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine offers study programs leading to the award of internationally licensable medical qualifications.

IUHS currently has two programs leading towards the MD Degree (or MBBS Degree in some locations):

    On-Campus MD Program

As you would expect, there is a competitive preference to those who possess a strong science background. Although an MCAT score is not mandatory, a BSc degree is usually required for entry into the MD Program. This ensures that the student has an adequate science background sufficient to handle the MD Program On-Campus. However, 90 or more credit hours may be substituted for a BA or BS degree on a case-by-case basis. The Admissions Committee will assess your college hours and credits.

Student Independant Study (SIS) MD Program

The criteria for admissions to the SIS Program requires either (1) a Master's degree in science, equivalent or greater, or (2) a Bachelor's degree with multiple years of experience in an advanced allied health sciences related field such as a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or certified registered nurse anesthetist, or (3) a BSc degree and must have written the MCAT (these students must have a full university basic sciences degree from the Faculty of Science).

In the past they have held Student Orientation in Atlanta, Georgia for their distance education medical students.

For further information on their MD Programs, visit their website, www.iuhs.edu or contact their admissions officer listed below.

In a roundabout way, there is already telemedicine, and the beginnings of telesurgery, but I know that your reply was meant with a joke in mind:)

    Re: Doctor of Pharmacy

This is a very interesting program. However, as someone on this forum mentioned previously, the Creighton PharmD program is probably more competitive than Med School due to number of applicants.

    hey amigo

    Hi,
I'm so curious to know if you already have a bachelor's degree and what you want to pursue.
I have been searching crazy for online courses in medical field, and well, I can find many but ONLY if you already have a bachelor's degree, which I don't.
My goal is bachelor in kinesiology and then Master's in PHysical therapy.
there's so little info on medical degrees and especially online.
Do you know about schools in states offering these degrees by any chance.
Let me know what you have figured out. Because while staying overseas, I've decided to change my route and go for a different bachelor's degree. NO other options available.

    Ph.D. of IS at UNISA

    Hi louisnguyen27,

I see that you are working on your Ph.D. at UNISA.
Do you mind sharing your experience?

    1. Is it 100% online? Meaning you don't need to travel to SA...
If that's the case, how do you communicate with your professors regarding your dissertation?
    2. What's the application process? For example, do you have to submit your dissertation topic when applying for admission? Is it difficult to get accepted?
    3. Are there any coursework?

I am also looking for a cheap DL doctor's degree. So any help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    sshuang
