Would it be more or less accurate to say that King's College, University College London, LSE, and Imperial College are comparable in national and international reputation to the likes of Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown and Princeton?

Yes. And I'd include St Andrews, Manchester, and Nottingham.

    Yes.

Don't know much about King's College, but LSE is right there with Ivy, University College-London as well.

I would liken Imperial not so much to any Ivy we have in the States, but more to MIT, which is just as good.

Pretty awesome that those schools offer online degrees.

I would also think that the University of Glasgow, the University of Kent at Canterbury, the University of Birgminham, the University of Greenwich (not to be confused with the infamous Greenwich university) and London University are also among the elite that offer great DL programs for international students.

Anyone know the actual ranking/reputation of De Montfort University?

The universities and colleges of federal universities in UK are ranked annually. I think there is a recent BBC reference to them. I'll look. Also, a subject at one university may rank high (i.e Kings College London History degree was more prestigious than an Oxford University one (I was at Oxford).

St Andrews? Maybe it has jumped a bit because of Prince William but the scuttlebutt used to have it that is was the place where the rather dim children of the aristocracy and upper landed gentry went. That's why people felt a bit sad when William chose it.

Montfort University used to be Leicester Polytechnic but now it is a university it has acquired a lot of branches a long way from Leicester.

These are rankings based on the number of files on their website and the number of unique web page hits.

I find it surprising nobody has mentioned the two most prestigious British universities, Cambridge and Oxford.

I thought it was based on the number of research papers each institution has in the online databases that the site searches.

I think that is because those two were assumed to be at the top. The question really is "who comes next?"

    Cambridge is awesome

I agree that Cambridge and Oxford are the two most famous - at least outside the UK.
Kings College is one of 31 colleges that amke up Cambridge university - which is essentially the town of Cambridge - well worth the time if you visit.

It would be a great place to go in residence if you had the brains and bucks. Kings college is perhaps the most famous college in the Cambridge system - if for its architecture if not academics.

I've been to Oxford as well - pretty but I like the town of Cambridge better

Well, IMHO, this depends on your field of study. LSE is ranked second among social science institutions ( Harvard is second) in the World University rankings, published, if memory serves me well, by the Times.

But, for general prestige, Oxxford and Cambridge are impressive, even in such an isolated place as Cuba.

I also visited Cambridge and Oxford, and found them beautiful, although I also found Cambridge more appealing to live in.

    Good luck,
