I have been researching DL MBA programs for the last couple of months. I think I am going to go with the Baker College MBA Accounting. My concern is that there classes are only 6 weeks. I am worried that I won't get a quality education like this. Is it possible to learn so much material in such a short amt of time. Is there anyone who is currently enrolled or previously enrolled who could share with me there experience with the program. Are actually able to take something from the class? Do the instructors respond in a timely manner?
I am currently an MBA student at Baker and I have learned a lot since begining the program. As far as the classes being six weeks, I easily take away more practical knowlege than the semester long undergrad classes I took at a B&M school. The program at Baker is very rigorous. The classes are structured around weekly modules, and each week has a lot of material in it, so you have to dedicate time each day to work on the course material. On top of that, each class requires a paper, and some a final exam. The professors have all been very responsive and so have the schools administration and student counselors. I have had an overwhelmingly positive experience so far with Baker and I recommend them to anyone looking for a purely DL MBA program who doesn't require AACSB accreditation. Good luck!
I did my undergrad and am currently in Baker's MBA. Six weeks may seem a short time to learn but it is intense. You have several assignments during each week, as well as having to participate 5 out of 7 days during the week. Each class also requires a 12-15 page research paper by the end of week six which will be part of an integrative portfolio at the end of the program. Also, most schools are 12 weeks in length and you usually take 2 courses at a time. This basically halves it so you can concentrate on one class at a time. I had no problem getting a better job and getting a recent promotion in part based on my BBA from Baker. Good luck!
I teach at Baker. Their courses are very demanding. They use the quarter system (12 week semester) but the online program has 2 separate 6 week semesters. This allows students to take only one course at a time yet still finish a lot of courses over a year. They have tried other systems over the year but the 6 week term works best and is very popular with online students. You must have the time available to devote to each class and be able to jump on the course the first day. You can not get behind. Good luck.
Baker Thanks for the responses. I am just now applying at Baker so that I can add a few grad-level finance classes. The six week sessions will work well for me and help me fit classes in between the quarter-system class that I am teaching and my trip to Europe (yipee!).
