Well, no surprise here, but AIU (American Intercontinental University) is officially on PROBATION with its Regional Accreditation body SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). I called SACS this morning to confirm. I just wanted to let anyone considering AIU to be informed. By the way, if you speak with an AIU admissions "salesperson" he/she will possibly admit to the probation, yet dismiss as a minor issue when we all know that it's a MAJOR one.
Hi David. I know that for the past few years AIU and its parent corporation, Career Education Corporation, have been under fire by various regulators for deceptive admissions (sales) tactics and financial aid issues. If you need further info I suggest you call SACs directly at (404) 679-4500. Good luck!
AIU / SACS Probation Statement For those of you interested in reading more about the AIU/SACS probationary statement, here's the direct link on the SACS site. Click on December 2005 Actions. AIU is conveniently at the TOP of the list! http://www.sacscoc.org
Re: AIU / SACS Probation Statement Or, even more conveniently, here's a direct link to the report (PDF). -=Steve=-
Thanks for the link, Steve! I tried to attach the actual file, but was told it had to be in a different format (other than pdf). How did you get the pdf posted as a link? (I'm eager to learn more)
I just went to the document in another window, then copied the URL (web address) into my reply here on the forum. -=Steve=-
There was a summary in the Chronicle also on this and a few other schools. If my mind serves correc tly, it dealt with the salesman style of enrolling students. But then again, my memory isn't what it used to be.
AIU article in CHE Apologies if this has been discussed already. I searched a bit on DI and did not find any references to it. I came across this article, while doing research for a proposal that I am working on. It looked like the sort of thing that someone here might be interested in. http://chronicle.com/free/v52/i19/19a02101.htm Promises and Profits A for-profit college is under investigation for pumping up enrollment while skimping on education
Gadzooks!!! Someone get the smelling salts, my St. Andrew's Knights are on the list . I knew they were having problems with finances but I didn't know it had come to this . I'm sure they will be fine, but it is very sad to see indeed.
