Wow what an and inspiring thread. Everyone here is so supportive.I enjoyed reading it.
Rhonda you have already completed Associates degree and have just a few more exams to take. Please don't feel discouraged by one failed exam.Just substitute it for some other exam and continue till you are done taking all 13.
I am sure it won't take long.
I too have been struggling with motivation since few days and to add to that i took the Drug and Alcohol abuse exam today and did badly.Had to guess on more than half the answers and don't know if i will pass or not...and i still have more than 80 credits to complete as i have almost no prior credits.
So imagine how good it is to be in your place,to have only 13 more exams to take.
You have done so well till now, please continue with it.

    Rhonda,

Regarding Social Psychology, see if you can check out a library book which was also a course textbook for that subject I was signed up for: The Social Animal, by Elliot Aronson. It's a fairly thick but easily read book and you will be reading a college textbook on the subject!

    Good luck.

Ha ha! A "brasserie"...that sounds more like something Madonna would wear. :p

We knew what you meant though! Perhaps a little less wine tomorrow night would be wise! Heehee!

Hi Rhonda - While I would agree that you shouldn't quit outright it seems clear that you need to slow down. You have gotten more than a bit crispy and you need to slacken your pace before you burnout completely. You need to build in some down time. Many programs allow you to take courses throughout the year. This does not mean you have to take courses thoughout the year. Take a semester off. This is not "giving up," this is simply recharging your batteries. Make this a habit. You need to remind yourself that what you are about to accomplish is a difficult task.
    IT IS A DIFFICULT TASK!
You deserve a break on a regular basis.
    Be kind to yourself.

    Rhonda,

Don't give up! I spent many many many sleepless night while working on my BS...what if I take this test...what if I fail a test- what others will work for me...what order should I take them in...blah blah blah.

It is worth the effort to finish your degree. Take a break if you need to (advice I have been given). Don't look at it as 13 test to go. Just do them one at a time. Ever hear the question: How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bit at a time.

Relax, take a breath, and do it!

I also think you should take a break. Don't touch an academic book or make any plans. After awhile you'll probably start missing school, and that's when it'll be time to start studying again. Relax and take your time!

Youknow, I took the HR and Organizational Behavior exam years ago without even studying and I passed with a B and A. I also studied for the Abnormal Psychology exam by getting a basic textbook on psychology and making flashcards on all of the definitions and terms in the Abnormal Psychology and Pathopsychology chapters and I barely passed with a C. I also did the same thing for the Psychology of Childhood and Aging, but failed miserably.

Hang in there and stay sharp. You can complete the exams and get that degree.

You know Rhonda, just think how fast you have progressed to this point. When you think about it, it is absurd how fast we are able to move towards our degrees.

Just yesterday alone you earned 12 credits. How many credits have you earned in the last six months? How long would it take to earn those same credits if you had to sit in a class for sixteen weeks? A year and a half? Two years? Three?

If you took the next SIX MONTHS off to rest and recover from the intense studying you have done lately, you would still be way ahead of the game.

I do still think you should go ahead and schedule your next exam to avoid becoming stagnant. But even if you take a nice relaxing month to prepare for it, you are still making GREAT time in the overall scheme of things!

Once you get your "umph" back, you can pick up the pace again if you so choose.

It's better to take your time and finish the degree than to burn yourself out trying to finish it as fast as possible.

As Zoyd mentioned, we sometimes forget what an accomplishment it is to earn a degree this way, and to earn it as quickly as we do.

Of all the exams you have taken, you failed one...but you also passed every other exam you have taken. That is no mean feat!

Go ahead and order Drug & Alcohol Abuse, or Fundamentals of Counseling, or MIS. Then take a couple of weeks off while you wait for the exam to arrive at your test center.

Once the exam is available, you can take up to 45 days to study for it at your own pace...at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

And when you report back that you have passed it, we will all be here to congratulate you...whether it be one week from now, one month from now, or three months from now.

It doesn't matter how fast you finish your degree, only that you DO finish it. If that mean taking a break, or slowing down the pace, then we are behind you all the way.

Slowly but surely, you are doing it Rhonda!

    Keep it up,
    Beholdweb

Maybe there are a few people here who have some excess "umph" that they would be willing to donate to Rhonda.

We could set up an "umph" donation fund for her.

    ------------------------------------------------------------
The Friends of Rhonda 2006 Umph Fund.

Gifts of motivation, encouragement, inspiration, incentives, prods, pushes, and inducements are always welcomed.

The Friends of Rhonda 2006 Umph Fund is a 501(c)(3) Non-profit Charity.
    ------------------------------------------------------------

We could even make one of those wicked cool thermometer graphic thingies to chart the donations. :p

If Austin Powers can get his mojo back, I'm pretty sure Rhonda can ger her umph back!

    Right?

rhonda , it happened to me too ...I didnt pass the mareting a few weeks ago ...however, i passed intro to buisness law ...

i feel some courses should be a warning when someone posts their results on marketing ..i have noticed many people had problems with marketing and american govt ....

so maybe even taking them as a TV course from a community college would just budget your time on this course...

    Longwaytogo,

You're right, I missed by ONE POINT. I could have kicked myself in the butt for not getting just one more question right. It was such a letdown. I studied quite a bit for this exam and I did great on the CLEP practice exam, so it threw me for a surprise.

    Beholdweb,

You are too funny and quite the entreprenuer to start your own non-profit corp like that :D

Everyone else...you guy and gals are great. It's good to have friends like these

    Good advice!

Rhonda, you've gotten such good advice! What a good bunch of people here.

My MBA seemed like a marathon, but you're at mile 20 in your marathon, where runners sometimes "hit the wall". It's just a bit further to the finish line.

You can do it, just hang in there.

    Learnaswego,

I combined my studies of the CLEP Humanities, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, American Lit, and British Lit because there is a ton of overlap. For the British Lit exam, I studied "Barron's EZ-101 English Literature" book, read a little from a Shorter's Introduction to Literature Anthology, and relied on my knowledge of British Lit from past interests. I recommend you become familiar with the writing styles of the major British authors and poets (Shakespeare, Chauncer, Dickens, Spenser, E.E. Cummings, etc), know your terminology for different poetic types (blank verse, couplet, terza rima, free verse, and Spencerian (sp?) verse). There is also a lot of literature interpretation on the exam, but since you did well on the American Lit exam, you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck and let us know how you did!
