I think the relevant article is here.

I suppose it's better than putting teenagers or the mentally challenged on death row.

Well, well, well! And just what is immoral about it? This creep committed a grocery store robbery, then (via hit man) murdered his son's girlfriend because she knew too much (and his hired gun accidently killed two others in the process), and, now, because the government has whizzed away the last twentyy-four years not carrying out his death sentence, we shouldn't execute him anymore? Hmm. Maybe we should have executed him more promptly. After all, it is much better to kill 52-year-olds, but not 76-year-ols, right, you nice liberals? Let's see here. For all future time, we cannot execute any oppressed groups. That means women, minorities, the young, the old, the poor. Who else? The only people we should execute are middle aged white dudes who make enough money to hire the most prestigious lawyer in the phone book.

How is this immoral? I definitely think the guy deserves to die no matter how old he is.

Now, the only issue I have is that he's experienced heart failure a number of time, and he's been kept alive to be executed. That I think is rididiculous because its a waste of time, money, and resources. I think if a person is on death row, and they are sick, and experience a heart attack oor flatline, then let them die! Keeping them alive for execution is a waste.

Why is it that conservatives, who ostensibly think that the government is incompetent to deliver mail, teach children, protect the environment, promote economic development, etc., etc., is suddenly infallible when it comes to determining who has committed heinous crimes?

Let evil people like that rot in jail without parole. Society is just as well protected, and in the event that, whoops, they got the wrong guy, there's at least something they can do about it. Besides, it's not like American jails are fun places to be.

FIRST OF ALL, LET ME SAY THIS ABOUT THAT: IF ANYBODY ON THIS BOARD EVER, EVER, EVER HAS THE GAZONGAS TO CALL TED HEIKS EITHER A CONSERVATIVE OR A REPUBLICAN, YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT APPLY, SUCH AS PERHAPS LIBEL, SLANDER, DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER, OR WHAT NOT ELSE!!! GOT IT??? Now, in response to that, I do not think that the mails, the education system, or economic development programs are all that bad, and, quite frankly, I fdon't care about the environment. But I do think that when search warrants and arrest warrants have been properly issued, when the defendant has had a trial with his choice of either by jury or by the bench, when the defendant has been represented by a lawyer, when a defendant has not been coerced into testifying against himself at trial (or to the cops before that), when a defendant has had all his appeals, it seems that there is a certain point at which we should say: yeah, he's guilty, let's give him whatever punishment the law decrees.

Awwww!!! You mean getting free room and meals, free medical care, free cable tv, and free midnight basketball is no fun at all? Honest, law-abiding people have to actually work for their roofs over their head, their food in their bellies, their medical care, their cable tv, and their gym memberships. And some honest, law-abiding people who commit the grave crime of just not making enough money end up living on the street. We treat our criminals better than that!!! Hmm.

    Ted,

I have to agree totally. Capital punishment is the law of the land in California. This man has been convicted and gone through appeal after appeal. The person responsible for this is the man who commited the crime. If you think captial punishment should be repealled make it happen but this is no reflection on Arnold.

P.S. Ted glad you changed over to the winning side! (joking!)

It's obvious... You, Ted Heiks, are a conservative and a republican.

    On another note...

The death penalty is immoral regardless of the age of its victim.

This is all alittle thin in my opinion...

If killing someone in cold blood is murder, an immoral act, can anyone tell me the difference between a human being in a jail cell being executed and a baby in the womb being executed are different?? Murder is murder is murder. I like to set the example for my children and killing people in cold blood is not the example i want to set. At the same time, violent criminal cannot be allowed to slide, but it seems to me if we had harsher law regarding violence instead of drugs possession we would have alot of room for people who act violently. Our system has failed most of the time when we have to turn to execution. This guy probably has a record as long as my.....arm. If he had been properly punished the first time around he MAY have not been in the position to committe murder. Just a though, I am just alittle uncomfortable killing a guy who can defend himself...

THe only different positions to be taken here is are you for murderous criminals or unborn children or human life in general.

SIR: ARE YOU TRYING TO TEST WHETHER OR NO I WILL SUE YOUR HIDE INTO TOTAL LIQUIDATION BANKRUPTCY FOR DEFAMING ME, LIKE I SAID TO MR. STEVE UP THERE???

Of course, there is a difference! The criminal being executed has been convicted of a crime. Well, on the other hand, the embryo/fetus is guilty of causing Mommy too much morning sickness and causing her to get all fat and uncomfortable and giving her lower back pains and causing all kinds of swelling, and, if allowed to live, would just end up causing her about 36 hours of labor pains and/or cause her to have to be sliced open. I used to ask my mother why she didn't do the test, find out that I would just end up being a stupid boy, and abort me. After all, boys aren't worth all that. Girls maybe, but not boys. But I've never thought about whether it should be a crime to cause mom a bunch of morning sickness.

That would be a very conservative, republican thing for you to do.

I agree with your comparison, but IMHO, we are above it. We dont need to replay his crime to prove we are better. We prove we are better by letting his butt rot away in jail...forever...and ever...and ever..But i do understand some people feel very strongly about this, and people of my usual mindset tend not to agree with me here.

And at the same time, reform the system to punish violent offenders from day one so not to wait for a big crime before they get signfigant time in jail.

Punch someone in the face at the mall..18 Month in the can..
    Hit someone with a bat...5-10years
    stab someone....7-10 years
    Attempted murder....25 years
    Murder...Life in Prison...automaticly...

But I am personally pretty harsh on personal responsibility. I think a person who causes a car wreck while drunk should not be charged with DUI, but with Attempted Murder, or Negligent Vehicular Assault or Homicide..call it what it is...

As for the name calling..They have to label people Ted, since they have no sense of personal values they need to find a place for themselve. Without a place for you they cant find there own place...which is sad....But it is the liberal democrat thing to do....

ACTUALLY: IT IS A VERY TICKED-OFF, FLAMING LIBERAL, LEFT WING THING TO DO TO BE SUING PEOPLE INTO BANKRUPTCY!!! QUIT CALLING ME A CONSERVATIVE, BECAUSE, FOR ONE THING, I DO NOT HATE BROKE PEOPLE, BECAUSE, IF I DID, THEN I WOULD HAVE TO HATE MYSELF!!! I AM NEITHER CONSERVATIVE NOR (GASP!!!) REPUBLICAN!!!

"His lawyers had raised two claims never before endorsed by the high court: that executing a frail old man would violate the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment, and that the 23 years he spent on death row were unconstitutionally cruel as well."

Of course, his endless appeals had nothing to do with the 23 years spent on death row.......

    Good riddance to bad trash.
