Awesome!! Thanks for your help everyone! I wrote Excelsior and they changed my PASS to an A! Now my GPA went from 3.47 to 3.53!

    Congratulations B.N.,

If you have a minimum of 30 graded credits, you may also now qualify for Latin honors. 3.5 - 3.74 = Cum Laude (if I remember correctly).

    I rest my case! :p

This is exactly the type of scenario I was thinking about when I started this thread: WITHOUT the six credits being graded you have a 3.47, WITH the six credits graded you have a 3.53.

In your particular case, this is a significant change in GPA because it takes you over the "honors" threshold.

I suspect there may be many who, like me, have taken the exam more recently but have not yet enrolled in Excelsior. In such cases, we will need to adjust our own GPA calculations such that A&I Literature is now pass/fail rather than graded.

For those who scored highly on the exam, this may be bad news (it would have been an 'A'). For those who didn't score so highly, this is great news (it's now simply a 'pass').

The same applies for Intro to Psychology, and the two United States History exams.

    Take care,

Beholdweb, I only wish I'd known this back before the Christmas break when I was struggling to decide between CLEP Ed. Psych. and CLEP HG&D (remember all those PMs?!). My CLEP English Comp. scores finally came in on Monday (more than a month later!) and it was an easy, easy, easy 3 credits with Excelsior, so I guess the decision was moot after all. TECEP English Comp. I just arrived and I'll be taking it and TECEP Operations next week.

Brandon- glad to hear that it improved your GPA!

    Thanks again everyone.

    LfH,

Congratulations on your CLEP English Comp exam. I knew you would be fine.

    You are almost there now!

Best of luck on your TECEPs next week. I will be taking both of those exams at some point, so please keep us updated on your experiences with them.

    Study hard...score high...pass well,

I didn't know Excelsior accepted English Clep.
Did you get 3 credits In English Composition or Humanities.
As far I know the English Clep does not fullfil the Written English Requirement.
    Please let me know!
    Thanks,

    Hey Pilot,

It is similar to the way that CLEP College Math does not fulfill the math requirement, but Excelsior still awards credit (up to 6 hours).

CLEP English Composition does not fulfill the written English requirement (WER), however, Excelsior will award 3 credit hours as long as your total freshman composition credits do not exceed 6 credit hours. If you take ECE College Writing or TECEP English Composition, this is great because they are only worth 3 ea. This obviously won't work for ECE English Composition -- 6 cr. -- as you'll already have filled your maximum allowance of 6. Make sense?

I opted to take TECEP English Composition (even after I had paid for ECE English, doh!) due to the grading issues that have been mentioned. Gaining partial credit for CLEP English allowed me to skip studying for a different Arts/Sciences exam. Besides, it is a good warmup for the TECEP.

    Good luck!
