    Hi,

First of all, I would like to thank you all greatly for having this wonderful and informative web-site up for people like me who are itching to complete their uncompleted education somehow.

Having said that I would like to request someone to help me as a mentor to complete my uncompleted education through testing exams like CLEPS and DANTES in 3 - 6 months time.

If that mentor has gone through the process by him / herself then that would be a big plus.

I already have around 50 lower level credits. All I need rest of the required credits in 3 - 6 months while keeping my full-time job. I am very much interested in Human Resource Management / Business Administration major as in the past I have studied in the similar field. However, I am also very much open to go any other quicker route as well. My ultimate goal is to do MBA from Cal State Dominguez Hill California as I don't live that far from this University.

Should someone be able to volunteer as a mentor to help me then I would be greatly thankful.

Looking forward to seeing your posts...

    Sincerely,

    PositiveSoul

    Let's see...

You wish to receive credit for the equivalent of 2 - 2 1/2 years of full-time college study in 3 - 6 months and you wish to do this while working full-time? Not a very realistic goal but one that can be done.

By taking 2 GRE subject examinations and passing them with a sufficiently high score you could receive up to 60 units of credit at Excelsior college. There are no GRE subject exams in human resources or business administration, so you would need to gain the equivalent knowledge of an undergraduate major in two of these subjects:

    Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology
    Biology
    Chemistry
    Computer Science
    Literature in English
    Mathematics
    Physics
    Psychology

If you were to pass these tests, you would have a total of 110 units. The remaining 10 units could be done via CLEP tests or coursework.

    Not very likely, but possible...

If you haven't been to this website http://www.bain4weeks.com then you should make a point to do so. Lawrie is a good guy and may answer some questions for you. However, there are a number of people on this forum who are engaged in this same process and I'd guess they'd be willing to help. Just ask some questions.

    My advice is as follows:
Look at COSC’s website and see what classes they require for the gen ed credits. What ever you do not have, that the CLEP’s that fill that requirement. I would focus on the six credit general CLEP’s and use the Comex study guides.

When it comes to electives, look at the Military passing percentages
    http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/examinations/clepgeneral-text.htm
    http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/examinations/clepsubject-text.htm
    http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/examinations/dssts-text.htm
    http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/examinations/ece2-text.htm

and pick one that has a high passing rate that you know something about. Make sure the test is accepted by COSC. Focus on any classes that are upper level and combine them with lower level classes at complement the upper level.

Earn a BS (more electives allowed than a BA) in Individualized Studies. I was able to take, for example, the following test – Sociology, History I, and Analyzing and Interp Lit. These prepared me to study, with the Comex Guide, for the General Humanities, which is 6 credits.

I hope this gives you something to think about. IT CAN BE DONE!!!

What are your 50 credits in?

Do you have any business credits?

Is your credit classroom courses, exams, portfolio, etc. ?

I take it you've already looked at Excelsior and Thomas Edison??

My comments from the website bain4weeks-
    http://bain4weeks.com/randell.html

First I want to thank you for a wonderful site. I found out about it from Degreeinfo.com.

With the guidance of your site, I was able to complete the requirements for my BS from Charter Oak State College in only 4 months. I started with a diploma in Biomedical Repair from the US Army, an AA from University of Phoenix, and my MCSE, and A+ certifications.

I completed two classes from the University of Phoenix for upper level credit and the following CLEP/DANTES/ECE exams:

    August
08-14-2002 DANTES Intro to Criminal Justice
08-14-2002 DANTES Intro to Law Enforcement

    September
    09-04-2002 DANTES Intro to Computing
    09-04-2002 DANTES Organizational Behav
    09-04-2002 DANTES Envir and Humanity
    09-09-2002 DANTES – HR Management
    09-09-2002 DANTES Tech Writing
    09-09-2002 DANTES Intro to Business
09-12-2002 DANTES Here’s to you Health
09-17-2002 CLEP History and Social Science
    09-19-2002 ECE Labor relations
    09-22-2002 DANTES Ethics
    09-22-2002 DANTES MIS
    09-26-2002 ECE Production/Operation Mgt
    09-30-2002 CLEP English w/essay

    November
11-11-2002 ECE Research Methods in Psy

I had to make time to take the last exam...work kept getting in the way.

It is possible to complete your degree in a very short time as long as you have a great resource, like this site, to guide you.

If you live close to CSUDH maybe you should check out their BS in Applied Studies (http://appliedstudies.tv/distancelearning.html).

Another sugestion if you want to pursue a CSUDH MBA is to pick up some upper division CSUDH credits (such as economics, business, or statistics) that would enhance your MBA application. It certainly helped support my MSQA application (my Excelsior BS has 6 courses/18 semester units from CSUDH).

  9. You don't mention how much time/travel your full-time job takes;this is "doable", but not trivial. I'd figure more like 6 months+ unless you've already enrolled and have an examination schedule prepared.

I did an Excelsior BS (General Business) from scratch in a little over a year, including time off to get married/go on honeymoon and to deal with a family health issue. Total study/test time was closer to 10 months to do 120 credits, all via examination. The first month I did around 30 credits which gave me a good kickstart. My ending GPA was 4.0.

There are a lot of people here who can help on this forum - I'm always happy to assist and have established a board for exchanging tips which some people find of value as well.

You don't mention any cost restrictions - assuming your 50 credits thus far are all applicable to a business or HR degree, the remaining 70 will probably come 3 credits at a time, likely via more expensive ECE or TECEP exams. Unless you're leveraging a GRE exam you should budget something around $3000-$4000 including used texts and a subscription to a site like Instantcert.

You shouldn't have a problem with getting into CSUDH as long as you meet the pre-reqs (which are met via any business degree) and don't faint when taking the GMAT.

My first suggestion is to look at your existing credits, look at the program you're interested in (probably either Excelsior or COSC) and start to build a spreadsheet or other document that outlines your testing order and strategy, understanding that until you enroll all credit transfers are approximate - you may need to change your plan once your existing credit is evaluated.

I found that my tracking sheet kept me focused and showed me how I was progressing. Now there's DegreeTracker at www.degreetracker.com that people are using which does the same thing online.

    So:

    1) Review existing credit against the requirements for the degree you are looking for
    2) Choose a school
    3) Put together a game plan for studying/testing
    4) Change plan based upon feedback from school
    5) Study and Test
    6) Repeat #5 until done!

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Hi,

    Happy New Year :)

Thank you very much for your kind and precious suggestions.

As far as my previous credits are concerned, most of them are business related but on undergraduate level. Plus, I have very diverse experience working in various jobs in Europe and the US. Nowadays, I am working for a financial institution.

Now I do have a silly question for you.

Is there any possibility to do an online / part-time MBA without any Bachelor Degree?

I don't mind to do some extra courses from the same institution as long as they are able to let me do my MBA.

Aren't there any executive MBA programs which accept people like me without Bachelor Degree or GMAT .etc?

I hope I don't sound arrogant or rude. If I do then I do apologize.

I also apologize for my silly questions.

My company can pay upto $10,000 a year.

I would be greatly thankful for your response and suggestions in due course.

Looking forward to hearing from you...

    Sincerely,

    PositiveSoul

Edinburgh Business School(EBS) is the only MBA programme I know of that offers a online Bachelor free MBA. The degree is granted by Heriot-Watt University.

    http://www.ebsglobal.net/

Of course it is based it Scotland, but it is accredited and I'd say a decent school and programme.

I think there may be some obsticles for non-degree holders but it is possible. I encourage you to check it out.

  12. Unless you are dead set against getting your undergrad done before you go towards your MBA I'd strongly recommend getting your bachelor's first so you keep many more options open to you.

Is there a deadline that you need to meet?

    Cheers,

    Thanks for your kind response....

I am just trying to explore my options... as my ultimate goal is to do online / part-time MBA then why not proceed to do that directly...? Thats all... :)

I think having MBA will give me more options than having a Bachelor Degree.... But again... I could be wrong... as I have been wrong many times in my life...

I just want to make sure that I am able to make enough money to put food on the table for my kids... I think MBA can help me in that quite reasonably... :)

Looking forward to hearing from you again...

    Sincerely,

    PositiveSoul

  14. I agree 100% that your MBA will give you more options in your career...but if you don't have your Bachelor's done yet you are severely limiting your options to pursue an MBA, at least in the US.

The H-W MBA from EBS, as has been pointed out, does not require you to complete your undergrad coursework. There may be a few other programs out there too - but that's it.

If you complete your Bachelor's, you are free to pick just about ANY MBA program you may want to apply to.

Besides...what if your MBA studies are interrupted for some reason? You have nothing to fall back on - you are in the same boat as someone who has no degree.

Just some thoughts...best wishes you in whatever option you choose...

    Cheers,
    Mark

Once again, Thank you very much for your kind response..

Would you mind to tell me about any executive / online / part-time MBA program in the US (I live in Southern California) which will accept me without a Bachelor Degree?

My goal / resolution of this year IS to either finish my Bachelor Degree by maximum June 2006 (I will try my best... ) or at least to be admitted in a school which will let me do MBA without a Bachelor Degree.... :)

My ultimate goal is to finish my MBA by the end of 2007.

I like to plan things ahead as it keeps me focused.

Any help / suggestion / advise / tip / hint .etc would be GREATLY appreciated....

Looking forward to hearing from you...

    Sincerely,

    PositiveSoul

    Well,

If you are motivated you could do BOTH! Use CLEP and Dante tests to finish a Bachelors at COSC, Excelsior, or TESC. When you get near completing that you could use that degree to enter most U.S. MBA programs. Good luck!

For what it's worth, Aspen.edu (DETC) has an MBA that does not require BA/BS.

Check out the link below to see if it fits your situation.

    Hope it helps.

Many good UK universities will accept qualified applicants for Graduate Studies. Most times its on a case by case basis, you would need to find those that offer online courses.

    www.dmu.ac.uk may have something.

The other option with the VAE in France you could find an english speaking one that allows you to fly to France for a few weeks and complete an undergruate level degree if you have very good experience.

another option is city and guilds senior awards. You would need to complete a thesis and then fly to Londo for Interview. This one maybe more practical than the VAE.
