I am interested in becoming an online adjunct and I was wondering if it mattered which school I earned my degree from? For example would a MBA in Finance degree from AIU get me the position or do I need it to be from a better school. The MBA from AIU does have 18 units in finance.

Also would a certificate in online teaching help me secure a position enough to be worth four months of time and $3,000?

It is difficult to say Adam what will work except perseverance and networking. An online training certificate will certainly help and as long as the degree is regionally accredited, it should work. It is discouraging but don't give up. More schools are offering online courses so there will be more opportunity. There is a Yahoo group specifically to exchange information
    (onlineadjuncts). Good luck.

Morningdove is right on target. I would only add that many schools look for several years of professional experience in the field. California State University - East Bay (formerly Hayward) offers a four course Online Teaching and Learning (OTL) Certificate that would be an excellent choice if you are not familiar with OTL pedagogy*.

    Good luck!
