Update on Ministry of Education Recognition
St Clements University is licensed as a Higher Education Institute in the Pacific nation of Niue. It has presented applications to the Higher Education Council of Uganda for a private university license, the Ministry of Education in Zambia for a private university license and with the Botswana Tertiary Education Council for accreditation. It is expected that we will present an application for accreditation with the Namibian Qualifications Authority before the end of 2005.

    From their e-newsletter 11-7-05
Would any of these "applications' if accepted give them legitiamacy?

    I second this question.
And what does a Higher Education license of Niue mean? Just an application?
And: Uganda, Zambia and Botswana: to receive a charter as a private University is laudable, but what does the evaluation process actually include? How much experience do these states have with higher education? Same with Namibian accredtiation.
And: provided that they get all these licenses, must St. Clements then be recognized at par with other govrenment-licensed / accredited universities?

    Quote from their website:
"St Clements University is a private commercial university. The role of the university is to provide educational services based on market need at degree level. The goal is to assist people gain the knowledge and skills to fulfill the degree requirements in the most efficient methods possible."
Sorry, but for me this means: Pay and get your degree. No?
Am I wrong in this assumption?

Is this the St. Clement's University where Dr. David Lee Cornu is the Vice President of Administration or something like that and who is also listed as the Vice President on the WAUC's site?

    Just curious.

I am not judging the school or its intentions. Just curious if this is one in the same.

    no Niues is good Niues

    Yes it is.

I would obviously trust the ability of these governments in Africa to make competent judgments regarding accreditation of B&M universities based there: UNam, UBot, Makerere, etc., most definitely testify to that (I am unfamiliar with universities in Zambia). Whether they will be alert to the chequered flagging draughtiness of St Clement's hallowed cyberhalls might well depend upon information provided by wise posters from this board.

    Niue? What next? Kerguelen? Atlantis?

There are either 4 or 5 universities claiming the Niue connection.

While Niue (slightly larger than Washington DC) officially has about 2,000 people (the majority affiliated with the London Missionary Society), I have read that more than half left at the time of two deadly cyclones in recent years and have not returned.

One claim to fame is a prime minister with the longest first name of any head of state anywhere.

    Mititaiagimene.

It was my understanding that the he is actually Premier, not Prime Minister. The Premier is not head of state either, HM Queen Elizabeth II is (as Queen of New Zealand), with the Governor-General of New Zealand as her representative.
