Yes the price is great at Peru!! Its going to cost me about one third of what I would be paying to continue at AIU!!

Now I wont have to go to college my whole life to avoid paying off the loans because it wont be that much!! :D

And just maybe I'll get my masters degree!!

    Hi Melissa,

Everyone here has offered you excellent advice, so I'll just say "Go Get 'Em!".

Please do let us know the outcome of your discussions with Peru. I have been recommending this school lately, due to the low cost of tuition and Regional Accreditation (plus the fact that Business, Psychology and Criminal Justice are incredibly popular majors now days!).

By the way, if in fact Peru will not recognize an Associates degree from another Regionally Accredited school (AIU), then I would file a complaint with the U.S. Dept. of Education. Most likely though, Peru was just confused. They are a small (around 1800 students) college based out of Nebraska. Perhaps news doesn't travel as fast in the "Corn Husker State". :D

    Anyway, good luck!

Hey now, Peru is for real - yes it's a small school but it definately is RA! To illustrate the scale of their operation, I will tell you that I spoke with someone in admissions, about my psychology bachelor's degree, and learned that they have just two professors teaching psychology. Therefore all coursework in psychology would be done with these two professors or perhaps some Adjuncts. I was not sure what to think about that but so long as they are interested in teaching and aren't overwhelmed with the new surge in enrollment, I think it couldn't hurt.

Then, I requested and received Peru'sr Spring 2006 schedule by mail. It's a rather slender newsprint publication, the kind my community college used to print before they went completely online to save costs. What I saw in that schedule is how many more classes are offered on campus or at a nearby air force base than are offered online. In psychology, for example, only two classes will be offered for Spring 06 first 8 week term and then two more for Spring 06 second session. Nevertheless, I'm going to try it out unless I hear otherwise! Peru is Nebraska's oldest teacher's college.

Tom and others who might be interested, I also learned that they used to have a Social Work curriculum but now they don't offer that BUT they have about a half-dozen Social Work ELECTIVES that are part and parcel of the B.S. Psychology degree! I think that is unique to Peru, am I right? I was told it was a State of Nebraska Addictions counselor requirement which they continue to incorporate in the undergraduate psychology degree.

Melissa, I caught your enthusiasm and it made me smile. I think we can't lose there!

Note that there are two AIUs. One accredited and the other isn't.

    (1) AIU Campuses and AIU Online are the same school and are accredited by a regional agency or RA (accredited by NCA). (2) To the contrary, Atlantic International University at http://www.aiu.edu is unaccredited.

    #1 is accredited by NCA
    #2 is unaccredited (Atlantic International...)

Which AIU did you tell them about?

American InterContinental University or Atlantic International University?

    just for the record

AIU (American Intercontinental University) is accredited by SACS, not NCA.

    Hi Ike,

According to CHEA, AIU is SACS accredited (still regional, either way, not trying to be a pedant)

    American InterContinental University
    3330 Peachtree Road, NE
    Atlanta, GA 30326
    United States
    Phone: (404) 965-5700
    Fax:
    Web: www.aiuniv.edu

Institutional Accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Commission on Colleges.

That's correct. American Inter-Continental is accredited by SACS not NCA.
I was trying to point out that there are two AIUs. One is accredited and the other isn't. Atlantic International University, which is also referred to as AIU, isn't accredited.

    Thanks

    Hi Ike,

You know what else is odd...

I have seen transcripts from both institutions, and the ones from the unaccredited AIU look much more official...go figure.

Is atlantic trying to become accredited? Doesn't look like it after going through their website although they are very up-front about the fact that they are not recognized by the DOE.

They have admissions requirements and other aspects that are present in accredited universities...I'm just curios.

I'm also "curious" why I can't seem to spell...

Either way, I used the search function and found out what I needed, sounds pretty millish to me, especaially the "lump sum" payment for degrees.

    Thanks everyone!!

I did attend the RA American InterContinental University. I think I just misunderstood it, because I believe the lady thought I went to a NA school. She did email me back and said it was fine!!

And I got a response on my application saying to finish filling out the other paperwork so my application can be processed i guess the sooner it's processed the higher chance you have to get grants!!

So now I am wondering what else I need to submit to them besides my transcripts if anyone knows?? I did email them but would prefer to get everything done tonight and I know everyone on here can reply must quicker!!

But there site does say you need:

Your application has been submitted electronically to the Peru State College admissions office. To complete your application:
    1. Have your High School submit official transcripts ( I already have a degree so I do not need to submit this right?)
    2. Request that the results of your ACT or SAT tests be sent to Peru State College ( I am almost certain I read transfer students who completed a degree do not need these scores. I sure hope not because I haven't taken either anyone know if this is for sure true?)
    3. Submit the PSC Medical form. ( I also believe it said online students are exempt from this)
    Transfer Students also must submit
    1. Official transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended (needed by me)
    2. A Transfer Student Report from the last postsecondary institution attended (unless you have completed the degree). (so this I will not need)

So all I need to do is submit my transcripts from AIU? Or am I missing something? Also I didnt read on Peru how to submit but I know some schools want them directly sent to the school from the other school. So should I just automatically have AIU send them to Peru when requesting them I am allowed to choose which address to send them to, its all done online!

thanks again everyone for you thoughts and advice!!

For all the things you believed you do not need to submit because you have a degree, I suggest you re-read to make sure an associate's degree will do the job. Sometimes the word "degree" by itself means bachelor's degree.

Peru State College Accepts NA Degrees/Credits!

I took the opportunity today to email Todd Drew, the Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Peru State College in Nebraska. I specifically asked him about the acceptability of NA degrees/credits. Here is what I asked him:

"I have a question about transfer credit. I am currently studying
business management/marketing at Thomson Education Direct, which is
nationally accredited through the Distance Education Training Council (DETC),
an accrediting body recognized by CHEA. I am interested in continuing
my studies in marketing via distance education at Peru State. My
question is: would I receive transfer credit for my Education Direct degree
at Peru? The courses at Education Direct are evaluated for credit
through the American Council on Education (ACE). I would also be
interested in more information about Peru's distance-learning business
    administration/marketing program. "

    Here is his response:

"All of your courses in which you received a "C" or better grade would
transfer in for our equivelant courses or as electives. We don't want
    you doing anything twice!

All of our available information is online at our website
(www.peru.edu). Just click on "degree programs" on our home page to get started and
scroll down. Then wander around the School of Professional Studies
pages and the college catalog as you wish.

Your next step is to apply online and have your transcripts sent to
admissions. Then we do a formal evaluation."

I think Peru State College just gained another student!
