What an interesting array of opinions. Including two private messages received, we have
    Middle East
    Namibia
    London
    India
    Pakistan
    Hong Kong Chinese
    Singapore
    Caribbean
    Danish/Scandinavian
    Germanic
    Baltic

We may never know. On the other hand, a colleague is current negotiating with them to buy a degree, and has been phoned by two different registrars (male) with sales pitches. I'll ask him to ask.

Did I ever mention that I "do voices" as a hobby? Kids love it. Wife loves it -- except when I do Connery -- she can't stand his voice. ;)

Ah, but I'm not little, at 6'2", and I'm certainly not rich. <sigh -- in the style of Rodney Dangerfield>

    Voices are amazing things.

My first inclination was South African or from Zimbabwe.

Sounds like a British born African, possibly a british born Nigerian. Please let us know what you find out, Dr. Bear. Thank you.

I can't help but wonder what they're going to think when they get their toll-free bill. ("Hmmm.... four calls from the same number in the span of 2 minutes.... maybe we should get someone else to give the message? People don't seem to be able to understand....")

It tried to make a reservation for a rental car for me. This voice over IP stuff is just not working as well as I had hoped -especially with toll free numbers.

Whenever a toll free number is called the recipient gets a record of the callers telephone number.

So it would be interesting tosee if any of you who called gets a call back.

    Re: Minority Report

One thing to bear in mind is that there are Indians for whom English is not a second language, but rather one of their first languages. Simultaneous learning and all that.

    my opinions:

English as an SL with study for many years including immersion study - probably in England, likely in London.

Clearly german inflections with a bit of "bordering France" dialect.

a few words like "office" "number" and "we'll" give me the german influence idea. words like "registrations office" and non-contraction but nearly contracted "you have" indicate the SL nature of her English.

She should certainly come participate in my next accent reduction workshop.

    southern africa accents

    My 2 cents:

Most likely White South African, or a White Namibian. German or Dutch may be but not likely. Zimbabwean,Indian, British or other European? simply not possible!

My main reason is that there is that "touch" of southern africa accent with a bit of afrikaneer in it. Hope this help :)

    thanx,

    Re: Re: Minority Report

In terms of grammar and fluency the pride many Indians take in speaking English means they are better spoken than many British citizens.

A similar university name has been used before, as referred to in
