If you want to watch the Houston Astros pep rally live, click on www.khou.com. The team is getting the send off before they leave for Chicago. My prediction is Astros 4 games to 3.

My prediction: White Sox in 6. I say, any team except a team from Texas (or Florida)

The Sox pitching staff is in a groove right now. I'd love to see a team from the NL central win (well, except the Cubs), but I think I'm giving the edge to the Sox.

    Sorry Tireman.:)

    'Stros in 6... several reasons:

    1. Better pitching staff (starters, relievers, closer). Can the Sox pitch 4 complete games again? Don't think so. Their bullpen has had "too much" rest.

    2. Minute Maid Park, with the roof closed, is a huge home field advantage.

    3. Crawford Boxes. Sox pitching is going to be intimidated by the short porch on left.

Should be a good series... for those of us who find low scoring games exciting.

    To all,

The wrong colored Sox team got into the World Series, they should have been Red!:D

However, I'll pick the White Sox in seven games.

Now, with the Red Sox winning in 2004, and now possibly the White Sox winning 2005, this should give some hope for all you Cub fans for 2006!

Didn't they play in the old Lone Star State League? :)

Who knows who will win but we get Ken Harrelson for a week and a half more!

You were making perfect sense, then all of sudden you veered into the land of make-believe.:D

    Hey! :(

Hope is the enemy of the Cub fan... the siren that lures a fan to destruction on the rocks. No matter what you wish for, and no matter how close the Cubs come to making said wish come true, in the end they will rip your heart out, throw it to the floor, and stomp on it. Being from Chicagoland, I have loved the Cubs since I was a child; and have attended more games in the friendly confines than I can count. But, alas, I will never live to see them win the World Series... nor, likely, will anyone else. It's not that they couldn't be good enough, or that they will never again come close; rather, it's that I'm convinced the gods just won't let us have it. It's simply not meant to be. Just when you think they've got a shot, they break your heart every single time... and always will. It's a little preview of hell for those not yet convinced that hell's a place to be avoided.

I am, of course, hoping against hope that the Sox will win. I've been counting the minutes 'til the ump yells "Play ball!" on Saturday. But I think Houston's just a better team at the moment... so, sadly, I think it will be Houston... possibly in as few as four or five... certainly in no more than six. And I can think of few things about which I'd rather be more wrong.

    Fingers crossed!

    To gkillion, greetings,

I may have veered off into the land of make-believe, but that is why it is called hope!

We got 'em right where we want 'em. All this while we are going to let the White Sox win the first 3 then lay the hammer down and sweep 'em. Go Astros. NEVER SAY NEVER.

So far your plan is coming together perfectly.

You gotta hand it to the Sox though, with the exception of a couple weeks down the stretch, they've played pretty well from day one.

I truly believed Houston's pitching would carry the day. I would have guessed 3-0 in the Astros favor to be much more likely than the reality we have. Wow!:)

    It's ahdr to compare pitching...

AL pitchers don't pitch to pitchers so that deflates their ERA when compared to a NL pitching staff....

I had to get the kids up for school this morning, so I missed the end of last night's marathon.

It doesn't look good for the Astros, but coming back from a 3-0 deficit in the postseason is no longer an unprecedented thing.

Knowing how Chicago fans feel about futility, I'm rooting for the White Sox. I just can't imagine the carnage in Chicago, should they pull it off.

I couldn't believe it. It set the record both for number of innings in a World Series game, and number of hours played. One of the announcers joked during the 13th inning that the pre-game meeting for tonight's (Wednesday's) game was in just a few minutes.

Indeed. Chicago could lose this yet. That said, I must say I'm stunned. Of course I'm rooting for Chicago; but I just didn't think they'd take it. I wrote earlier, here, that there were few things about which I wanted to be more wrong... and it looks like maybe that wish will come true... to my astonishment and delight.

Now, if only the Cubs... ;)

Oh, yeah... you're a cop, so you have a whole different perspective on what that sort of thing is like. Ouch. Keeping peace in a town that's just won a national sports title -- especially one that's not been won in the better part of a century -- can be daunting, I'm sure.

Tonight's game could be it! Just seventeen minutes to game time as I finish this post. I'm popping my popcorn; checking on the chili; and setting the VCR to record "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart" on NBC, just in case (and just kidding), just as soon as I click on the "Submit Reply" button.

This is almost as much fun as the Little League World Series!

    ;)

I, too, wish it was the Cubbies...

I heard a Cubs fan on NPR that he WASN'T rooting for the White Sox BUT Chicago is Chicago and, well, you know...

I also heard a White Sox fan say that the Cubs are the "pretty boys" and the Sox are a "blue collar" team...I thought that was pretty good.

I admit that I am tormented. On the ONE hand, I hate and despise ANY Texan team on general principals (this is a bedrock requirement of genuine New Mexiconess)

On the OTHER hand, the American League doesn't play REAL baseball...

    Sigh.
