    Good Day To All,
I have read through these discussions often and appreciate the collective insights provided, thank you.

I am interested in COSC. Over the years, I have earned 120 credits from two RA universities (UW WI 100 cr & Bellevue U 20 cr).

Question: What is the likelyhood that COSC will simple evaluate and grant a degree for these credits? If so, what would the cost be (as money is very tight these days)?

    I appreciate your consideration.
    Thank you.

    Best Regards To All,
    Sparky

    Charter Oak Rocks!

First, great choice. I'm a Charter Oak alumnus, and I totally love them!

To answer your first question, it depends on whether your credits cover all of the required general education areas, and whether you have 36 credit hours (15 at upper division) that can be assembled into a sensible concentration. If so then the odds are basically 100%, and this has indeed happened to people in situations such as yours.

As far as cost, assuming that your credits fulfill all requirements, you'll pay the matriculation fee and the graduation fee, and that's it. I think that's less than $1,500. Are you a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident? If so, you can get federal financial aid to cover this, which means you can pay it off in fifty dollar monthly payments.

Do yourself a favor -- get in touch with one of their admissions people. They're known for being incredibly helpful, even for people at the inquiry stage, like you are.

    Good luck!

Thank you Steve & Randell !
will most likely pay for an "in-depth" eval of my earned credit (yes, I did all the gen course work and almost 2 majors!). I appreciate your advice.

    Thanks,
    Sparky

Go for it. You'll be done with this in no time. And IIRC at least some of that fee gets deducted from the matriculation fee later anyway.

    Hi Sparky:

I am almost in the same exact situation you are in. I mailed my COSC application and transcripts in a couple of weeks ago for a detailed evaluation.

Right now, I am just waiting on pins and needles to see how much credit they grant me. I am hoping COSC will say I am eligible for my B.A. without any further credits needed. However, if I end up needing 5 or 10 credits, thats ok too.

Welcome Aboard Sparky! I will post the results of my eval once I receive them. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

As far as your application is concerned, I would highly recommend COSC to you. Good luck to you.

    COSC re-matriculation

    Hi Sparky,

Sounds like you're in pretty good shape with your requirements being met. Good Luck. One thing that has recently changed/ been added to the overall reqirement list is to satisfy an "Information Literacy" proficiency. It basically shows ability to research and process information online and from other sources. They offer a 1 cr. hr. online option/process that satisfys this latest requirement, or by taking any online course that requires research.

I matriculated earlier this year at Charter Oak and had to postpone degree quest due to a family emergency. New baby girl decided to arrive 3 1/2 months early..., 2+ months in ICU..., that sort of thing; she's doing great now - whew! Long story short; I'm in the process of rematriculating but was able to have eval completed during 1st go around. I have 100 cr. hrs. transferred in from 3 reg. accred. institutions to apply toward my B.S. degree in Business.

I just stumbled across this and similar sites on achieving degree goals through non-traditional methods and can really appreciate this forum after 20 or so years of procrastination to complete my 4th yr. studies. I will be taking my 1st of about 11 assessments in about 3 weeks and can hardly wait. I'll certainly be picking the brains of all of these great contrarians that have gone before us. Again, best of luck with the eval Sparky.

    Rob-
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Now you HAVE to finish the degree so you can set the example for her! :D

    Good luck on the tests.

    Thanks Ryan,
The "new addition" has certainly induced a more acute motivational factor. We all have our reasons for pursuing educational goals and to provide an appreciation of achievement by example is surely among the highest ranked : )

Although the "acheivement by example" can back fire. My thirteen year old daughter eagerly awaits my grades at the end of every semester, hoping I get a B so she can rub it in my face.

It usually goes something along the lines of "Oh, a B? I got all As." At least it seems to motivate her to work hard at school, if for nothing else, then at least for bragging rights over her dad. :D
