I know that UNISA is accredited by the DETC and I realize that SA is in the process of establishing accreditation standards. I have also read and searched through the different forums stating that a PHD from UNISA has been declared to be equivalent to a degree granted by an RA institution in the US. Do undergraduate degrees from UNISA receive the same type of RA-equivalent accreditation as well? Thanks for any responses!
I believe the answer is "yes." There are some differences, however. These degrees tend to be more focused than their US equivalents, with fewer "general education" credits required. The Bachelors degree is awarded after three years of full-time study (if the necessary credit total has been reached, etc) and the fourth year is an optional Honors degree. This is typically seen as a prep year for grad school. Hopefully others will chime in, especially if I've made an error with any of the above information. Jack
thanks Jack for your response. I have noticed that the degrees were a bit more focused than US degrees. They contain less liberal arts classes than our degrees. Let me ask this: If a UNISA undergraduate degree were taken to a foreign degree evaluation service to determine its equivalency, would it would be given RA status?
If it's a regular three-year Bachelor's degree, I'd say "maybe". If it's a four-year Honors degree, I'd say "probably".
PMBrooks: Why not get it from the horse's mouth? Ask these folks: http://www.ece.org/main/homepage?openform&SubSite=1 I used ECE to evaluate my foreign credentials to US equivalency.
UNISA is RA in their OWN country, which is equivalent to RA in USA. DETC is just an additional accreditation add to their RA list, just like any other RA equivalent universities in Australia. etc...University of South Australia
