is the fact that the Red Sox have just tied the Yankees for the lead in the AL East by beating them 5-3. These two teams play twice more this weekend. Baeball just doesn't get better than this (except maybe those Little League World Series games). Jack
I loved it. The best part was when the highest paid player in baseball let a ground ball go through his legs.
It was a pretty good weekend for the Red Sox. They took two out of three from the Yankees and bought themselves the wildcard slot. I believe their first game against Chicago is on Tuesday. Baseball in October can be lots of fun. I hope it's a good series. Jack
Actually, I am waiting on his clone. Can you imagine how many home runs a Ted Williams on steroids could hit?
In the awfully complex APBA computer baseball games I play, I recently played the 1941 Red Sox against my opponent's 1905 NY Giants in a 7-game series. Ted Williams couldn't hit the ball out of the infield against Christy Mathewson in 13 at bats, but he did well against Iron Man McGinnity and Dummy Taylor.
Well, of course everyone knows that the Red Sox are in the process of getting badly beaten by the White Sox. Game three is tonight (4pm) and if the Red Sox lose their season is over. If the Red Sox win the go to game 4 on Saturday. In order to add just a bit more drama to the situation, we have the remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy (I think) moving into New England and the weatherman says they'll be lucky to finish tonights game before the heavy rain starts. There's virtually no chance of a game tomorrow and rain is forecast for the next 4-6 days. It's all good. Jack
There may be members here who could analyze the Red Sox sweep by the White Sox this week in technical terms full of baseball jargon, etc. I'd just say that the better team won. My thanks to the Boston Red Sox for a fun season of baseball. Good luck to Chicago in their games ahead. Jack
A short series tends to favor the team with two or three (but not more) dominant pitchers. Any fewer and we see what happened to the Red Sox, who are without at least 3 starters from last year's team. Any more (like the Braves over the years) and you find a team built for the long season, but lacking in short-term run production. The Yankees seem to get this right a lot, but that's probably because they can buy any team they want.
Sorry to change the subject but it seems that the Patriots won today. As far as I'm concerned it's not as good as having the Red Sox win but as we approach the Fall and Winter seasons, what are you going to do? (Don't worry, I don't care for hockey). Jack
