    Hi,

I've recently enrolled in Excelsior's BS IT program, so this is of great interest to me. I have taken many IT Certifications in the past, such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco ect, but I've never taken an ICCP exam. Can anyone share their experiences with ICCP? How do the exams compare with other industry exams? Is the format similar? How did you study? Did you find them more/less difficult? ICCP's website does list a city near me that has a testing location, but their website seems vauge on info regarding it. What's the proctor situation?

    thanks a bunch!

    Hi Rob,

You'll actually find some information on ICCP exams here on this forum.

Unfortunately, the search function does not work well on this site. So this is what you have to do, go to google and search for "ICCP site:degreeinfo.com"

You'll find lots of interesting information.

    Hope this helps,
    Brandon

ICCP exams for Excelsior College credit

There are good posts at Excelsior's EPN site concerning ICCP exams.

I took 6 ICCP exams to satisfy requirements for my BS-CIS from Excelsior. I would say generally that the ICCP exams are very broad and general in nature. All of the exams were computer based, multiple choice so not terribly difficult given proper preparation. All the exams reflected dated information but I believe this would be true of a college course given the lead time required to publish a textbook, select it for a course and then prepare a course based on the book selected.

ICCP accepted my supervisor at work as a proctor so I was able to take the exams at work under his supervision (very convenient).

ICCP exam info at Excelsior EPN site

I just checked and it looks like Excelsior upgraded it's EPN site and purged all the posts concerning ICCP exams. If you ask, Excelsior's EPN coordinator may be able to repost these messages (this was done once before).

I also tried a search here at DI on iccp and didn't find the older posts (before 2005) that had specific info on various ICCP exams.

If you have questions about specific ICCP exams, post them here and I will give you whatever help I can short of a list of questions on the exam.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'll try out the security exam first, so if you've taken that I'd be interested in any insights.

I did not take the Security ICCP exam, but the pass rate for the "IS/IT Systems Security" exam has been 74.5%, which is similar to other ICCP exams:

    http://www.iccp.org/iccpnew/stats.html

Personally, I did not prepare well for most of the ICCP exams I took and passed only 2 of 5 exams. Also, I made the mistake of taking several exams within the same month. In retrospect, I would have read the relevant textbooks that ICCP recommends:

At the same link above, there is info on buying the study guides for individual ICCP exams for $25 each, including the Security exam. I used the ICCP study guides for each exam I took, so beware of the study guides (which are very valuable) giving a false sense of security.

As you may know, there is a free ICCP Test Sampler that includes a section with 8 questions from the Systems Security exam.

Since ICCP's website can be difficult to nativage, another link worth mentioning is:

    Examination Subject Outlines - ICCP

By the way, I took the ICCP exams in late 2001, and I had no industry experience at that time.

Thanks, I purchased the hacking exposed book they mentioned. It's a little dated but I hear so are the tests. Luckily I do have some experience in the area. Also I did try the very short sample you can download and didn't miss any. I guess it's time to take the plunge. I'll fax them next week and setup the proctor, then actually study.
    Thanks.

    Hi All;

I just sat the Systems Security ICCP exam today. I passed with a 74%. Good enough for the ACP, CCP, and good enough for Excelsior.

Like others my primary issue is the lack of good study material for these tests. I purchased one of the recommended texts (an outdated copy of Hacking Exposed). This text was of no use at all. I only skimmed through it, but I could tell from the start that it was a bad choice. I was lucky in that the Security ICCP exam is one of the few where you can get a free sample (8 questions) of the test off the website.

For me this was a difficult test because a great deal of the questions were subjective. Many questions were of the type which response is MOST CORRECT and then four responses where every response is technically correct. I count myself as very lucky, I"ve been in the industry for many years and do have an interest in security so my lack of any real study was ok.

If I had to do it again I'd purchase any material that ICCP offered directly, including the practice test. Base the exam material off those samples and then look online for additional supporting material.

All of that being said I am considering the database exam. However before I even sign-up I am going to contact ICCP and see which exam materials they offer directly. I don't have much interest or previous background in databases so if the sample test doesn't look passable I'm not even going to attempt it.

One of you bright people who read this board could certainly make some money off the rest of us if you'd sit these exams and write some useful material. If there were books, or pdfs on ebay for ICCP like there are for CLEP I'd be first in line.

That unfortunatly is the norm with security exams in my experience, especially the CISSP. I am currently studying for the CISA in June 06 and its alot of the same.
