    MKGRILL,
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions.
You convinced me, I will sign up tomorrow for a couple of classes.
Survey of mathematics & essentials of psychology.

    1. If I understand you correctly, if I take 2 classes then I will have two hours for "EACH "exam, 3 classes 3 hours etc...??

    2. How many classes do you think I can take at once without being overloaded?( I am a employed full time)
    I know it's a subjective question but......

    3. Regarding the letter grade at excelsior, I remember the academic advisor telling me that if an institution is a candidate for RA then the grade is reported otherwise (if only ace approved) it's reported as pass/fail.
Do you think that they may start reporting your grade as pass fail for the NEW classes since ED is no longer a candidate for RA

    4. I was wondering if you took the english composition at ED?
If so was it accepted by excelsior, English composition & Rhetoric is no longer offered by ED it has been replaced by English composition.

    Thanks a million.........

    1. Yeah since you'll be taking two classes you'll get 2 hours for your proctored exam 1 hour for Survey of mathematics & 1 hour for essentials of psychology. If it only takes you 45 mins to complete the survey of mathmatiics portion then you can use the extra 15 mins on essentials of psychology..

    2. There degree programs are based on semsters normaly 5 to 6 course as you complete a course they then send you the next course you have a year to complete a semster.

The enrichment programs as which you are looking to take, will send you all the course work at once. I'm not sure how long youl get to complete your courses. I work full time and have school age children It took me 8 weeks to finish 2 courses (minus the proctored exam) . I would recommend taking 2 courses at time. Just a heads up some of there courses have per req's

    3. From my understanding if your course was graded it would reflect as a graded course on your excelsior transcripts regardless of how it was earned. If wasn't a graded course it would reflect as a Pass / Fail. All ED / Pennfoster courses are letter graded

    4. Per my Advisor at excelsior The english comp at ED / PennFoster isn't in the latest (ACE) National Guide 2004/2005. So excelsior cannot accept it. Not sure when the next guide will be published and if it will be reviewed by then

For the benefit of others reading this thread, could you tell us how you went about registering for individual courses at Penn Foster? There has been some disagreement as to whether people can take just one or two courses from Penn Foster. I think it's because the Penn Foster/Education Direct people push the full degree programs when someone calls to ask about classes.

    Sure!
You need to call the Business & Industrial Training @
    1-800-233-0259.
The cost is 55$ per semester hour + 20$ proctor fee.

    Question for MKGRILL:
I read on an old thread that you took the Introduction to College Writing @ the university of Idaho
    http://www.uidaho.edu/isi/courses/engl101.htm.
Ii would like to know if it was an easy/hard course would you recommend it?
How about you TCord1964 can you recommend an easy one?
Or can anybody recommend an easy one?
    Thanks,

    ....

    Here is my experince

I enrolled in excelsior .. I had 4 GenEd courses to complete to get my AAS.

I called the student service # an inquried about taking indivaul courses at PennFoster and was told I couldn't do it.

I called the school regarding an other issues and I was speaking with the proctored deparment and ask if If I could take indivaul courses they said yes but you have to get approval from a deparment head. They then transfer me to the head of ASB applied computer science program in which I was enrolled

To make a long story short if wanna take indivaul courses call the student service number. 1-888-427-1000 .. If your not a student just hold on the line and you'll be connected to a rep. Tell this person you wanna take enrichment courses . If they can't help you ask to speak to a deparment head

I'm enrolled in the course now. I completed 4 out 18 lessons. Its not as structured as a PennFoster courses. As far as it being easy or hard I would say once again its challenging but not extremely difficult. If I had to do it again I woul look elsewhere for a english comp course.

I finally have a criticism of Penn Foster, formerly known as Education Direct.

I had emailed them a question about credit transfer almost a week ago. I used the message feature on my student web site. I never received a response.

On a positive note, I did call Penn Foster today to ask my question, and got through within five minutes.

Lesson learned: if you need to contact Penn Foster about anything, don't bother with email. Use the phone.

Hmm. Interesting. I tried taking individual courses with them a few years back and they refused. I had to take an entire Program or none (they didn't break out courses back then). That left a poor taste, apparently, they just wanted people in the programs. So, I should probably check them out again and see if I can take individual courses now-a-days.

OK, I have an update on the email situation at Penn Foster. They finally did respond to my email...one week after I sent my questions. Even so, I asked them two questions in my email, and they only answered one. It seemed like a canned response, too.

Stick with phone calls if you need something from Penn Foster.

I am officially halfway thorugh my Business Math course at Penn Foster. I scored a 96 on my second exam. My high school-aged son, who is something of a whiz at high school alegbra and trigonometry, looked over my course materials and said he thought it looked quite difficult, so I'm proud of my score.

So far, it has been a long, hard slog through Business Math. Math is by far my worst subject, but so far I am doing well. I am NOT looking forward to this portion of the proctored final at the end of the semester.

I have also decided that after I finish this semester with Penn Foster, I am going to transfer to either Excelsior or Charter Oak. I have nothing against Penn Foster. In fact, I am probably the school's biggest cheerleader. However, I am closer to a BA than I had previously thought, and I can wrap things up much faster through testing at one of the Big 3.

I figured it was time for me to update this thread, since it picks up where I left off last time I posted.

I finished the third of four exams in the Math for Business and Finance course, and I scored another 96. I am currently studying the final lesson in my Business Math course, and I should be taking the exam for it next weekend.

Since it has taken me so long to get through this course, my semester actually expired. Penn Foster students are given 12 months to finish a semester. I had to pay a $75 fee to extend the semester by six months. I'll have that amount of time to finish the next three courses and take the semester finals. I'm hoping to finish this within the next three months.

After that, I plan to finish my General Ed requirements through CLEP subject exams, and then transfer to Charter Oak State College. I may remain at Penn Foster just to finish the marketing degree I started, but I haven't decided yet. I do like some of the marketing courses which are still ahead, and they would help me in the workplace.
