    Hi everyone.
After extensive research, including this board (thanks!), I have decided on Touro for my PhD in Business Administration.
The finalists were: NCU, Capella, and Touro.
Thanks to everyone for the good advice, and good luck to everyone.

Glad to hear this... I manage a forum of about 80 TUI Ph.D. students. Write me an email to ( d w a g n e r @ t o u r o u . e d u ) once you have your TUI email account and I'll get you started with the group. We have new students all the way through new doctors, so you can get informal support when you need it. Again, congrats!

    Best wishes,

    Dave

Congratulations. Touro seems to be the best option among the three schools that you short-listed.

    Randell,

Once you are a Touro alumnus, you will always remain a Touro alumnus. I hope that you are still rooting for Touro University.:D

    Congrats

Best of luck on your PhD.

I am in a similar situation, and was wondering what was your final reasoning for going with TUI? My decision is also between TUI and NCU.

Very interesting... Thanks. I seem to recall that the Touros collectively were involved in establishing some libraries but I don't recall where I read that...

    Re: Congrats

I can’t say exactly what tipped the decision. I guess like everything in life it is subjective. I talked to admission counselors at the three schools and all were very friendly and efficient, and answered all my questions.
Scanning the web sites the TUI site looked more professional. I like the structure of the classes with a defined start and a defined schedule for the class. My impression of the NCU classes was that as the class can start on the first of every month, it is likely that you will be in a class with 2 or 3 other students only starting with you.
I like online education and with the size of my family and amount of my business travel it is the only viable option for me. However, I realize that online education has its deficiencies. One of the biggest is the feeling of being there alone, late at night, with the keyboard and mouse. (I am typing this is a huge, but empty, hotel room. What do I care that the room is big?). When I compared the programs, I tried to find which program will better compensate for this feeling and give me a feeling that I am not alone in this? My impression was that TUI does a better job of helping in this area.
The final point was looking at the faculty list. I can't say exactly what it was, but the Touro list gave me a better feeling. Perhaps my mind was already made by that time and I am doing injustice to NCU. Please do not take this as saying anything against any program.
Once again, I know that it is subjective.

    Re: Re: Congrats

Not at all. Thank you for posting. I like both programs thus far. I like that both are RA. That both can be completed entirely by DL.

    PROS/Cons:

    TUI:
Affiliate to Touro College (Law, health services, etc)
No books to buy, CD's/DVD's are appealing
    Affordable
    Calif based.
    PhD option in Marketing
    Can't start til Summer 06?
44 units with a Business Masters Degree, Classes are 4 units

    NCU:
    RA
Can proceed as fast as you want
    Books
    Friendly, helpful staff,
    PhD in BA, Marketing
    Also affordable
I can start 1/06, saving me 6 month waiting time
51 units with a MBA. Classes are 3 units.

I haven't made up my mind yet either. Both have variables that had value. At this stage I'm leaning towards NCU, as I would be able to start as soon as I finish my MBA, with no lag time.

Best of luck to you, and congrats on making your decision. You couldn't go wrong in either school. Hopefully I'll make my decision soon as well.

Never dawned on me this was the same Touro of the famous Touro Infirmary in New Orleans.

My family and I went to Touro many times while living in New Orleans. My father used to make us line our noses with Vick's Salve prior to going into the waiting room.

    Re: Re: Re: Congrats

Another thought on completing the degree entirely through DL... I've noticed that some of the TUI Ph.D. students take the pilgrimage to visit the campus in Cypress, CA. and that many students do attend academic conferences associated with their chosen area of speciality. So the delivery is entirely through DL but optional travel to the campus and academic conferences may be helpful as well.

    Best wishes,

    Dave

    Impressions...

I'd be interested in anyone's impressions of TUI's Cypress campus. Having almost completed my PhD from there, it has been 'strange' having never seen the school.

I wish they'd include more images of the campus and people on their website. While the site is good, it would provide a little more of a community feel it they did.

Reggie when I actually go there which will not be anytime in the near future I will be more then happy to share my input on the site. I will proabably check it out within the next few months since I am so close.

    Thanks!

I did not know TUI had options for their PhD's. I thought it was just a PhD in BA without a ficus or concentration. Am I missing something?

    Re: Re: Re: Re: Congrats

Let me clarify my statement, as it was a little vague, and stated incorrectly.

Both NCU and TUI have marketing electives allowing one to further their marketing knowledge. Both offer classes such as Consumer behavior, marketing management, International marketing, special topics in marketing. Allowing one to take their entire group of electives in Marketing. Both PhD's would be in Business Administration., and both would be able to have a strong Marketing emphasis to them. I wouldn't care if my diploma stated the emphasis, as long as I could take several Marketing classes for the elective portion of the PhD.
