    Dear group members;

    I am the spouse of one of your DL board members. I am specifically look for a legitimate, not necessarily RA program-DL that would allow me to incorporate residential psychotherapy training that I am contracting for at another institute that does not grant degrees. Interest areas include counselling, psychotherapy, ministry, bodywork. Thankyou, Kerry

    Hi Kerry,

    It would be helpful if you defined "legitimate". If not RA, are you alluding to state approved doctoral programs? Let us know.

    thank you for your reply. state approved and/or a sincere religious exemption is fine as licensure is not a real issue.

    Hi Kerry - You didn't say if you were looking for a doctoral level program or what you hoped to do with your degree once you've earned it. As Simon indicated in the previous posting, there are a number of factors that will combine to narrow the number of good choices so you might want to re-post with some additional details. Based on the interesting combination of "areas of interest" you've listed I'd say that you might want to look at The Union Institute and University program as it is interdisciplinary by design and so could accomodate any combination of interests.

    thanks simon and jack. i am looking for a phd program.however union and the like for a canadian with the currency exchange is only for a millionaire.in my province only psychologists and psychiatrists are licensed. everyone else can hang up a shingle as long as those 2 titles are not used.my husband a psychologist thinks this situation compared to the u.s. is abysmal.however those of us in ontario who work in an alternative psychospirtual setting(if legitimate get our real training from non degree granting institutes) the phd s are more for personal satisfaction.so a decent program THAT IS NOT A MILLis what i am looking for . particularily if it has a transpersonal orientation.--thanks guys.

    Well I don't know how helpful this is but if you're mainly looking to hang up a shingle and don't actually need a PhD to do it then you may want to check out the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology http://www.itp.edu
    They have a Masters program that you might find interesting. As for the PhD programs, most of the ones that I am familiar with are RA programs that will cost a lot (like Union or Fielding or Saybrook or CIIS or Walden, etc. Not too long ago there was a thread on the forum related to the "California approved" schools. Somewhere in the thread there was a link to a complete listing of all the CA approved schools and what they offered. A bit of research in that area might pay off. Good luck,
    Jack

    Kerry,

    Did you review John Bear's latest distance learning guide for potential schools that may meet your needs and goals? Also, perform a web search under transpersonal counseling/psychology using such search engines as Dogpile and/or Google and see if this provides you with any possible candidates.

    There are several "schools" that are accredited by fallacious/bogus accrediting agencies that offer doctorates in the areas
    that you are seeking. However, I would not lst them on this page due to my partiality towards regional accredited programs and the fact that I would not want to recommend any program that, one day, may come back to "haunt" somebody. Good luck.
