Does anybody know of any easy english class?
I need to fulfill the Excelsior Written english requirement.
Excelsior does not accept the english clep.
I am looking for a fast and easy one
Cost is not an issue as my company pays for it!
    Thank you much;)

generally speaking, the English 101 - Freshman Composition class at any local community college isn't seen by most college students as particularly hard...

I assume that you are a student of Excelsior College, since you are concerened with the acceptance of the CLEP from Excelsior College.

I don't know of the easiest english exam--as you may get different answers depending on who you speak with.

However, I also attend Excelsior College and I will also need to fulfill this requirement. My plans are to purchase the Excelsior Learning Guide, study, and take the English ECE exam.

If you have taken other exams such as this, and implement the study materials, you may do as well as you would have taking an online course.

My point is, please also consider taking the ECE exam--since studying and passing CLEPS sounds pretty easy to me...ECE's shouldn't be much more difficult than CLEPS.

You can get 3 upper level English credits and meet the written English requirement at Excelsior by taking English 312 - Persuasive Writing through BYU extension (www.byu.edu) for about $350

While some CLEP/DANTES/ECE exams are in fact "easy" -- others are not. One should be cautious making the assumption that all exams are "easy" for all people.

Consider too, if you may want to transfer to another college later (maybe a second BA/BSc) -- that Excelsior written English exam may or may not be accepted in transfer.

Too, if you're going to want to go on to a graduate degree -- it may be better to take a writing class in real time just to fine tune your academic writing skills.

    Just a few more thoughts....

I took Engl 101 though UGA. When I took it, it was just a correspondence course, but it's web based now. It was not hard at all. Pretty pricey if you are out of state though. I'd look at the local CC myself. course should be a snap -- except for attending class of course :D

    Enlish Comp 101

  7. If you want the easiest option, take the English Comp I TECEP from TESC. This exam is really easy and meets the Excelsior Written English requirement (it's what I took).

You need a 70/100 for credit, I got a 96. In my experience (see my site for details) if you can write a few paragraphs you're in great shape. Spelling and writing aids are permitted.

You'll need a proctor to give the exam however, and it takes over a month to get your grade. Other than that it's the quickest option as all you do is take a single 2 hour exam.

    Cheers,

  8. As any CLEP won't meet the Excelsior WE requirement I took at a look at the ECE version - and turned it down because of people's complaints that it was nearly impossible to get an "A".

I agree that everyone's mileage may vary with respect to an English exam - especially if one's native language isn't English. I'd be surprised, however, if a person with at least high-school written skills can't pass the TECEP English Comp I exam.

If you want Fast and Easy the TESC exam may be the way to go.

Although, I'm thinking of switching my plans to take the BYU course instead of the ECE exam---seems to be a consensus that this exam is tougher than I thought.

BYU and TESC cost nearly the same--but at that price, I don't want to take the risk--wich is the reason for going BYU.

Excelsior is coming out with a new English exam.

It covers only composition. Not analyzing literature. You get only 3 redits instead of the usual 6. I think it is going to $205. It looks like it will be MUCH easier.

The old exam will still be availble.

Thank to all of you !
    I might try the TECEP.
I'd like to know if anybody took this test?
And if yes do you have any advice.
I am just a little worried as english is not my first language.

  13. I took the TECEP and it was easy for me. However, if English isn't your first language you should brush up and practice writing prior to the exam. The scoring appears to work by starting with a score of 100/100 and deducting a point for each mistake made. If you make a lot of spelling or grammar mistakes this could cost you dearly.

You are allowed a spelling aid (electronic or a dictionary) as well as a writing handbook (such as Harbrace) - I highly suggest using both.

I provided more information as to the content of the test on my site.

    Cheers,

    Thanks guitarmark2000.
I just checked your website, Interesting I did not know that the test was a pass/fail which is much better for me.
But, I wonder if I'm not better of taking the course instead of the test.
Do you know if the TESC course is graded or is it a pass fail?
Or are there any other options that would better suit my needs.
I appreciate all the help as always

  15. I don't know about the course - did you check with Excelsior?

If this new Excelsior exam is easier you may want to pursue that one - it'll probably be much cheaper than the TESC course.

    Receiving Credit for English Composition
    Based on Test Scores

Can Excelsior accept that you received your credit for English 101 and
English 102 based on ACT or SAT Scores?

Please, go to read this: http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:EL8EVs7bojsJ:registrar.boisestate.edu/Forms/TestingEnglishComp.pdf+english+composition+to+earn+credit&hl=en

can those TESC exams also be taken in Europe?
If so, do you need a proctor?
    Or how does it work?
    Thx!
    m.

  18. I don't know about taking these exams in Europe, but you do need a proctor.

I checked the course overview it is : 10 lessons, one examination.
Does that mean that the final examination accounts for 100% of the course grade?
Or are there any other graded assignments?
You stated that it's not hard at all. what make you say that...
Thank you very much for your help...........
