CMA Australia is not a member of IFAC. I just need the designation to teach some accounting courses. I teach Accounting Information Systems and Computerized Accounting. Most schools require an accounting designation, I got the CMA Australia but it doesn't seem to make a difference. RPA Canada can take the CMA australia as prerequisite for the exams but CGA and CMA Canada give me no credit for the Australian CMA.

Can you get some credit from RPA to CGA or CMA? Is RPA recognized enough to teach accounting in your experience?

Have a look at the CPA(Delaware). Unless things have change you needed less than a diploma in accounting to write the exam, 21 accounting credits with US tax as one of them. After you pass the CPA, there is a reciprocal agreement with CA, not sure how this work. However, with CGA you will need to pass the four qualifying courses. I have no idea the arrangement for CMA.

I find it useful reading this information . thanks a lot.
I completed my master degree in economics with a bachelor degree in the same outside canada .been a landed immigrant in canada. I feel keen interest to go for CGA designation . searched seneca college program like international accounting and finance leading to cover almost All the courses to face CGA challenge exams. what do you suggest for the course or other courses to fulfill my CGA desire ? I understand it will take time even for 4 yrs more where I already spent 4 years in my previous university education. Yes, I am adamant to continue for fulfilling my dream to be CGA . In addition, I did some courses like mathematics for Economists , advanced Statistics , advanced microeconomics , macroeconomics , econometrics , intl trade and public finance in my previous university. do you think I will be given some course exemption ?

    Hi Jolopori,

Regarding the CGA designation, you should review the Become a CGA pages at the CGA Canada web site:

    Become a CGA

I know that CGA Canada and Laurentian University have a partnership, which allows CGA students to complete a university degree if they don't have a degree (a degree is now required in order to obtain the CGA designation). Since you already have more than one university degree, you should only need to complete the CGA courses to satisfy the academic requirement for the CGA designation.

Since you already have coursework in business-related subjects, I would recommend that you get a transcript evaluation from CGA Canada (or the corresponding provincial CGA association) to see if you can earn any exemptions. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the CGA is open to granting transfer credit for foreign qualifications and I have seen this in my own experience.

For the remaining CGA courses that you need, you can either take them through the CGA program itself or take the equivalent courses at an accredited college or university and then transfer them into the CGA program. The CGA program courses are notoriously difficult, with some courses having a pass rate of around 50%. If you choose to take courses through a college or university, you need to ensure that these courses will transfer into the program before you take them. To help with this process, CGA does publish lists of courses by institution which they will accept for transfer credit.

Finally, you will need to consider how you will obtain the required practical experience in accounting if your current position is not suitable. I believe that you need at least two years of accounting work experience before you can earn the CGA designation. The CGA Canada web site will have more information on what experience is suitable.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck!

    Regards,

    Michael Weedon, CA
